back to school…

hi all!

today was pezza’s first day back to school (and momma’s first day in ages of having her brain all to herself.)  she was SO excited to be back and SO happy to see two of her fave friends from last year in her class.  her teacher said she had a great day so i am relieved.  now she just has to keep it going!

so who is obsessed with Pinterest raise your hand {waves hand wildly in the air.}  a recent fave of mine is a wreath of crayons on a styrofoam base.  i just HAD to make one for Pezza’s teacher.  and she is a CTMH consultant and avid crafter like me so i knew she would appreciate it.

it was easy to put together – i started with a styrofoam wreath base from Michaels – the smallest one i believe.  i wrapped a ribbon around it and then i put a strip of scor tape all the way around where the crayons would be.

next i laid out the crayons on the table – two boxes of 24.  i organized them like a color wheel and then adjusted the size of the circle, using the wreath to measure (just don’t set it down with the scor tape side down until you are ready!)  once they were arranged i laid the wreath down to attacj the crayons to the scor tape.  then i used a hot glue gun to go around and quickly put a dab of hot glue on each crayon on the outside of the wreath and the inside to hold the crayons on.

and now the part i am most pleased with – the little felt flower grouping:

many of you have seen me use these felt die cuts before but this time i did some stitching!  i LOVE embroidered felt!  but i tried it a bit last year at christmas and got frustrated with it.  i decided to try again and i am glad i did!  i started with some felt pieces from Felt on the Fly – LOVE her!!!  i cut the shapes using spellbinders dies.  next the stitching.  not just straight stitches i wanted actual embroidery stitches.  i wanted french knots and lazy daisies.  i did a little googling and found lots of tutorials.  so i settled in after pezza was in bed and set to work.  i read the directions.  i did not understand.  i read them again.  nope.  and yes there were pictures.  i decided it might make sense if i did it WHILE reading.  nope.  nope 2.  nope 3.  nope 4.   GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

i needed a new tutorial.  did some more googling and found one from Sublime Stitching.  i looked it over.  and it made sense!!!  i tried it.  it WORKED.  and now i am ready to french knot anything i can!  hahahahhahah!  i am pretty sure you will be seeing more of this!

and now i am off to get dinner started.  have a great evening!

fun & easy Easter wreath

hi all!

quick post today as i am supposed to be cleaning the house (ICK!)  a couple weeks ago we were in Michaels and Pezza saw a wreath she just HAD to have – so i told her i would make her one and wanted to share it here as it was SO stinkin’ EASY!

AND CHEAP TOO!  all you need is a straw wreath for the base, easter grass (1 pack), Easter ribbon (2 spools) and plastic eggs (1 pack).  Cover the wreath with easter grass and wrap the ribbon around it – this is enough to hold it on – Hot glue each ribbon end to keep it secure.  Hot glue plastic eggs on (be sure you are gluing to the WREATH not the grass).  Make a floral bow and attach with hot glue – DONE!  took me like 15 minutes if that 😛  Pezza LOVES it!!!

Just Buggin’ Challenge Time! #23 – LOVE…

we are battening down the hatches for what my hubby is calling the snowpocalypse (insert dripping sarcasm here).  we will supposedly be getting 20″ – 30″ of snow in our area today and tomorrow.  he is home from work today so i am WAY HAPPY about all that snow coming down (sorry suzanne) even if it DID cancel my mardi gras Close To My Heart party tomorrow.  i don’t know why but i love to shovel snow!  i sure don’t like doing much else that’s useful…

today’s project is for the current Just Buggin’ Challenge – Love Ya – make something for Valentine’s Day using you cricut.  Pezzy & I found some cute wreath makin’s in the Ms $1 bin and a heart-shaped grapevine wreath and I got this idea:

in keeping with my new wreath kick that started t Christmas…

i cut several shapes fro my Weddings Solutions Cricut Cart and tucked them into the other wreath picks.  I cut the shadow base shapes from  sturdier piece of cardboard off the back of one of my paper stacks (it was white so it fit easily into the scheme.)

it doesn’t show in the pictures but i cut the base shape from pale pink cardstock and then misted them with pearl mist made from water and Blush Perfect Pearls to give them some shimmer.  if you are not into making your own mist i HIGHLY recommend the Smooch Spritz which is a GREAT deal AND works better than any of the others – you cn get it at SCACD and Susana has all the new colors in too!!  >>CLICK HERE<<

Finally – to really jazz them up – i enhanced the top layers of the diecuts. I covered the first one in Martha Stewart Tinsel Glitter – GREAT fun stuff!!!  makes me think of fuzzy pipe cleaners with loads of glitz!  This is also available at SCACD >>HERE<< in TWO SUPER combo packs of mini vials (which is really all you need)  – One is regular colors and one is iridescent YUMMY!!  the center pic shows a die cut that i covered in pink Martha Stewart Metallic microbeads.  This last one i covered in clear Martha Stewart microbeads.  i know it is glaring but seriously – i could not get a NOT glaring picture which is kinda cool!

NOW HOW do you stick those things to the intricate die cuts???  SUPER easy.  i just ran them FACE DOWN through my xyron machine, make sure there is no adhesive *goobers* off the edges of the paper, and then cover it with glitter or microbeads – sticks WONDERFULLY!!  i don’t use my xyron to glue EVERYTHING down as the refills are expensive but they ARE indispensible for certain techniques like this and one i will be showing soon where i use my die cuts as stencils for a new product coming soon.

well time for me to run out & collect all the stuff that we left lying around the backyard from the last snow play day – like the shovel, the sled….cover the firepit…before the snowpocalypse hits!!  be sure and visit the Just Buggin’ Challenge blog to see what the other DTs have done with this challenge to get you inspired!!!

have a great day!!!

My first ever wreath!

YEP it’s purple & Silver with a bit of green!  Michaels had all of their wreaths and wreath making goodies on sale 50% off – gotta love a bargain like that!  I was getting christmas picks for a few more glass blocks i have in mind.

and then Pezzy fell in love with this VERY glittery silver bird & i have to admit in didn’t take much for her to convince me he needed to come home with us!  i fell in love with the wonderful ribbone on the same display & so i decided to try my hand at making a wreath – i have always wanted one and tried making one once a hundred years ago and it looked awful!  but i thought maybe i had learned a few things since then 🙂

i LOVE all the fantatstically gawdy Christmas picks – i mean seriously WHEN ELSE can you get away with apples covered in silver glitter and pears covered in crystal beads????????  i mean i go for that kind of thing all year long but christmas makes it completely acceptable!  i even have purple, beaded acorns in here!!  this was so much fun to make i want to make more!

perhaps i will make a wreath for every holiday………do they have easter picks?  i have never looked……maybe i can even get my cricut involved in it next time!

Tomorrow i will be showcasing a bunch of the ornaments i have made so i sure hope you have time to come take a peek!  have a great weekend!!
