the hardest thing about our challenge for Try It Out Thursday for Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design this week was finally deciding on ONE idea as i had so many!  Suzanne had us use stencils and dreamweaver embossing paste or viva decor modeling cream.  i ADORE the crafter’s workshop stencils susana has been bringing in and i am loving using them with modeling cream by viva and embossing paste by dreamweaver. for my project today i used one of the crafter’s workshop stencils paired up with some dee-LISH champagne modeling cream by viva decor:

I used patterned paper to an oldie but goodie (and still one of my faves) – eva by basic grey. i went with a somewhat vintage-y feel with my crocheted trim. anyone remember the threading water punch we all thought we would die without (maybe that was just on the cricut message board…) – i used that for my border and then added some perfect little droplets of Carmine Red Paper Pen from Viva Decor. The paper pens have more of a glossy enamel look rather than a pearlescent or glittery finish.

For my focal piece i simply laid my stencil on my paper, gently smoothed the modeling creme acros the top like icing a cake and then lifted. Rinse your stencils right away! while still wet i sprinkled the center with a bit of Glamour Dust to add to the delicate pearlescence of the Modeling Cream.
To finish it off i simply placed a gorgeous mulberry flower from petaloo in the center. i am quite pleased with the results! This stencil comes with 4 different flower designs and the possibilities are endless as to what you can place in the center to personalize the look – nothing like a purchase of something you can use LOTS of times!
well i hope everyone has a fabulous weekend planned for them!

ahhh VIVA

hi all!!!

almost to the weekend!  YAY!

before getting into my project for TIOT today i have one quick tidbit for you – a REALLY GOOD DEAL for you!  i have some misc goodies from the FANTASTIC new stuff Tim Holtz released at CHA.  i will not be stocking these items so i am putting them on sale for 20% off!!!!  there are very few of each here – some items i only have ONE of – so once they are gone they are gone.  i have the Texture Fades embossing folders, the new distress ink pads (so gorgeous) and lots of random ideology stuff!

Suzanne issued the DT a FABULOUS challenge this week – use Viva Decor – oh you don’t have to tell me twice!!! i have been obssessed with them since i first stumbled on them online just before CHA. My card today uses the Viva technique my daughter, Pezza (nickname), came up with for her recent video HERE:
I used this weeks sketch from SCS for my LO. The patterned paper is from Kaisercraft Hello Birdie – the whole pad is gorgeous! i m also lovin’ all the little chipboard goodies Susana got in and used a few here. i started by putting layer of diamond glaze on them. then sprinkled them with glitter. when that dried i put another layer of diamond glaze on top. I also used Diamond Glaze to adhere them to the card so i would have a good seal and then i filled in the flower centers and parts of the butterfly with kiwi pearl pen and the rest of the butterfly with Sunshine Yellow Gloss Gel – you can see the design underneath through the gel – i am lovin’ it!!! thanks susana for the idea!

i had a lot of fun with my main image panel. i used the Viva technique Pezza did in her video with two Viva Decor Gloss Gel pens – Magenta and Orange. These really give you a gorgeous soft background in nothing flat -just sponge them on! Next i stamped randomly with this way too cute little dandelion puff seed image – it is one of TWO bonus images from the exclusive Victoria Case Hearts & Hugs Summer Collection. i cut out the HI with my Plantin SchoolBook Cricut cartridge.
Have YOU taken the Viva plunge yet??? you will be SO glad you did! be sure to show us what YOU like to do with your Viva!
Head over to the SCACD blog to see what the other girls did!

Mini invite & clearly sparkling – double duty today!

ever look at your to-do list for the day and have this vague sense that it will take DAYS to actually do it?  that would be ME!!  however i AM gradually scratching a few things off…  i am covering two challenges today – TIOT for Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design SCACD AND my project for Creative Inspirations paints which are carried in Susana’s store as well!

blog tag

our TIOT challenge for SCACD was two-fold – an invitation AND we had to use red, white n blue! rather than the traditional party invitation type project i went down a little different road and came up with this:
it is more of an individual invitation to get together with a friend for coffee. It’s a cute little 3″ square mini notecard. I used a Lockhart stamp called Teapot – you can get it HERE in susana’s store. i stamped it with Memento black and colored with Copics. the blue patterned paper is from one of the new Kaisercraft 6×6 pads Susana just got in – Utopia. These new pads are GORGEOUS! i finished off with a teeny prima from the Tiny Tots set and stamped a sentiment from Studio G. sweet & simple!

next i challenged the Creative Inspirations Paints team to Clearly Sparkle – they had to use their paints on something clear! here is mine:

I got my colors from my paper – i used a piece from a mini k&Co pad i think it is.  That FABBY ribbon is from my outlet score tuesday!  The center is a couple primas with a glittered skittle center.  the band is punched with an ek success border punch and accented with a Viva Decor yellow Gloss Gel Pen.

My main image is from Peachy Keen stamps – i just adore it!  i stamped it on acetate with Staz On black ink.  Then i let it dry and painted the BACK with the CI paints.  i put them on thickly to minimize any uneven coverage.  it really sparkles & shines!

i hope everyone has a great weekend planned!

a rockin’ TIOT!

hi all!!!

my week is flying!  it looks like we might finally get some sunshine today!  i am hoping to go strawberry picking at this wonderful local farm with hubby & pez this weekend.  i have a theory on it – since it has been so rainy people won’t have been picking them during the week so if we get out there saturday morning we will get plenty!  now don’t ask me what i plan to do with them all….

Suzanne gave us a great sketch to work with for Try It Out T-days this week:

In addition i used the following challenges for inspiration:

Practical Scrappers – Patterned Paper
Papertake Weekly – Flowers
ABC Challenge – U=Unused Stash
Crafty Creations – Celebrations
Stamp Something – Celebrate

and here she is:

how fantastic is this patterned paper? it is from the Kioshi paper pad by Basic Grey – susana has it in stock in the 6×6 size. my little matching purple flowers started out as white – susana has lots to choose from – and i gave them a light spritz with some Smooch Frosted Grape instant matching flower. The yellow flower is a die cut made from Viva Decor Modeling Grass. i finished it off with a few little black Diamond Drops.

My image is Little Dianne from the Hearts & Hugs Spring Collection by Victoria Case exclusively at SCACD – doesn’t she look like she’s having fun? this is such a versatile image – it can work well for kids cards or thank you cards or my favorite – the ones you send just to brighten someones day so they least expect it 🙂
i stamped with memento black and colored her in with copics. i added some Spica glitter pen highlights here and there. my sentiment is a studio G stamp. i cut her out with the Labels 11 Nestibilities.
Have you checked to all the fun new things susana has been adding to her store? so much to play with! one of my fave new things – the Maya Road mini chipboard shapes! i can’t wait to get my hands on these! in addition there are some fantastic new 6×6 paper pads!
PLUS have you noticed the change to TIOT? not only have we split the postings up but we want all of you to join in!! so pull out any of the stamps you have that can be purchased at susana’s store – this includes both exclusives AND stamps that she carries from other lines such as kraftin kimmie, i brake for stamps, lockharts, our craft lounge (such a huge selection) – and show us what you’ve got! be sure to link your creation to this post using the same sketch we used for this week.
have fun!

SCACD TIOT: bubble fun

nearly the weekend WOOHOO!  i have no idea what we are doing this weekend but i am hoping it involves finally finishing the butterfly garden on the side of the house!  and one last load of mulch!

i had a bunch of fun chatting with some of the girls first on the magazine website Through the Craft Room Door and then later over on the Color Me Creative copic website for Suzanne’s classes.  what a fun bunch!  my Cricut classes over there will be getting underway very soon!

tomorrow my oldest, Drake, is stopping in for a visit on their way to move to new hampshire from south carolina – that boy is nuts!  no plan – well they have a what they think is a plan – you know the carefree barely past teenagers type of a plan which is vastly different from the i have seen and done it all and now i know better type of plan I would make but……  ahhh to be young!  i was really hoping they (i will be meeting this girlfriend of his – only girlfriend he has ever had) would be staying a few days but they have friends helping that are on a time schedule.  pezza will NOT be happy at the shortness of the visit.  drake worked hard at being her favorite when he lived here.  he will be taking his car with him which trevor has been using all this time so trev isn’t thrilled.  guess the hated car shopping will begin – ICK!  the worst part of it is mediating between the two – hubby and trevor! hha haha

this morning we are off to the dentist.  i have a feeling i will not be getting off easy like i usually do this time.  i have rarely ever had a cavity but i have one tooth that seems a bit iffy lately……we’ll see

today is thursday so that means there is a new batch of shimmering delight over on the Creative Inspiration blog – be sure to check those out!  you can purchase the paints at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design!

my TIOT project was lots of fun this week!  In addition to TIOT i also used the following challenges for inspiration:

Splitcoast: Sketch challenge
Papertake Weekly: Shiny/Sparkly

and here is my card:

i used Bubbles from the most recent Elisabeth Bell release – how seriously cute is this?!?!?!? LOVE that sweet little face! my layout for this card comes from the Splitcoast sketch challenge yesterday real goodie this week! i used basic grey papers – though my pads have split apart and now i don’t know which is which for these EEK! Susana just got a bunch of new 6×6 pads in – basic grey, kaisercraft and 7 gypsies – some seriously YUMMY paper and i LOVE the 6×6 size – makes it so much easier to collect them all KWIM!!! ok back to the card at hand! before i began i gave the two patterned papers a good misting with Smooch Vanilla Breeze shimmering mist to give them some amazing shimmer without altering the look of the pattern at all. this is one of my favorite techniques! my perfect little double loop bow was easy to do with my bow easy!  the embellies are from Webster’s Pages and are called sparklers and WOW i love them!!!  i will be looking into Webster’s Pages further!  these were a gift from Susana.

I stamped this little cutie with black memento ink and colored her with copics. then i cut her out and covered her little bubbles in Viva Decor Holographic Glitter Liner – i am STILL amazed by the sparkle in these. i cut her out to layer her over all of the smaller layers in my card.

i made the little swirls free hand with some Viva Decor pens – i used ice white and light blue pearl pens and holographic glitter liner. these are actually pretty easy to do – keep the droplets close so you can see the pattern. in this case they alternate between ice white and the other two but you can do them all in one color too!
if you have not yet checked out these new elisabeth bell images you should – probably her best set yet!!!

have a great day!

TIOT: embossing at it’s best!

WHEW!  what a day!  my post is late – so sorry!  i have a great project for ya and a couple video tutorials to go with it!!

anyone else enjoying fantastic spring weather? I took a break from spring yard work to make up a fun easy little project for Suzanne’s TIOT challenge – embossing!

blog tag

i chose to do some dry embossing with my cuttlebug embossing folders, an acrylic mini album and some amazing Viva Decor Gloss Gel pens:

I started with a cute little mini acrylic album. The front of the album has a little Lockhart Itty Bitty – Three Packages which i accented with Spica Glitter Pens – flawless color and sparkle even on this dark yellow paper.

There are 6 *pages* so I embossed 3 with the Swirls embossing folder and 3 with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I only embossed the frosting portion of the little cupcake shape.

After embossing I filled in the recessed portions of the design with Viva Decor Gloss Gel Pen. The Swirls are filled in with Magenta and the Dots are filled in with Sunny Yellow.

After the Gel Pen dried I added small rectangle mats to each side of each page – again alternating between yellow and magenta. I finished each page off with tiny Primas I found in my stash. Each flower has a Viva Pen center – Magenta Gloss Gel for the yellow ones and Yellow Pearl Pen for the pink ones.

I have a full video on all of the fun things you can do with Gloss Gel Pens – including a few tips on making sure all of your Viva Pens give you those perfect little round pearls!
And for the mini album above:
Have a fantastic week!!!

TIOT with a GREAT tip on watercoloring!

Suzanne gave us a fun challenge this week reminiscent of blooming tulips (which i should be seeing in my yard soon!) We were to use red, purple, yellow and hot pink. Crazy colors but i had fun with mine:

This project is for the following challenges:
Paperplay – Sketch
ABC challenge – Red
Papertake Weekly – Anything Goes
Crafty Creations – Anything Goes
Twisted Thursday – Anything Goes

The papers are from my scrap pile – i matted with Kraft and inked everything with Memento Rich Cocoa – this makes an amazing difference when working with lots of colors or lots of patterns – it just pulls everything together. The cute little flowers are Prima Tiny Tots.  Those yummy little pink droplets are gorgeous Magenta Gloss Gel from Viva Decor – yet another pen that gives you perfectly formed droplets with NO effort!

Now for the part i am most excited about – i WATERCOLORED!! ok i know some of you might be rolling your eyes but this is something i have longed to be able to do but never seemed to get it. I stamped the cute little image – New Friends by Elisabeth Bell for SCACD – on watercolor paper using Memento Black.  I cut her out using Spellbinders Labels 12.  Next I pulled out my yummy Creative Inspirations shimmer paints – if you have not seen these yet you are missing out! there’s more than 50 colors, the shimmer in PACKED in there and the colors are pure and amazingly brilliant. Now the important part – a Fantastix applicator. I got this tip from Molly, the creator of the paints. never heard of fantastix? well i had heard of them and even had some but i had NO idea when or why i would ever use them. now i know. the brush tip is a spongey pointed tip. it is hard when dry but i set it in a container of water for a bit while i chose my paint colors and it soaked up the water and became spongy. next i dipped the very tip into the paint and brushed it around on scrap paper – the paint mixed with the water and became a thin watercolor paint which i used to put a light wash of color on my image – i did NOT wet the paper first for this. Next i dipper the tip back into the paint & ran the tip along the edge where i wanted a darker shadow effect. i laid the Fantastix sort of sideways so i was using the SIDE of the tip – this created a blended effect from dark to light in one simple stroke – i was FLOORED!! couldn’t be easier!!! and the best part – even on the places with the PALEST of color wash the shimmer is still just as prolific! Go bck to the top and look at the moving pic again – you will see the shading in one flash and the shimmer in the other. ALSO when changing colors just swish your Fantastix round in your water like you would a paint brush! i hope some of you find this little tutorial useful! i hope to get it on video soon so i can demonstrate it a little better!
The project itself is not card but a little gift holder – inside is a cute matchbook style notepad attached with repositionable adhesive so it can be taken off and used. i raided the $1 bin at Ms recently – it is PACKED with fun little gift set items right now including these notepads – 2 to a pack and some GREAT mary englebrite items which i got a ton of.
The colors on this one just happened to match the challenge so that is where i got my inspiration!
i hope you are having a wonderful week!!!  une in tomorrow for Artful INKables!  it is a SUPER set featuring an amazing array of TJ techniques one of which could be my very favorite discovery!!
