CAS63: Simple butterfly

happy monday! (is that an oxymoron??)

i am sick as a DOG today!  hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday afternoon.  WAHH!  i don’t do sick well – just don’t have time!  **sigh**

SO wanna know what can make you feel REALLY old (other than your 40th bday staring you in the face) – i was browsing etsy as i tend to do and i was looking for some vintage stuff.  what pops up in my search…??? these:

Vintage CORNING WARE 10 CUP Cornflower Blue Stovetop COFFEE POT with LID

both of which were alive, kickin’ and even TRENDY at my house during my childhood.

as if that wasn’t bad enough i see these:

which were the dishes i had in my first apartment

and then these….

Sale - Lot of Vintage Tupperware - Sugar Creamer Small and Large Tumblers - Harvest Gold

which were in use at my ex-husband’s parents’ home while we were dating in high school.

ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!  so does that mean i am vintage????  somehow i thought of vintage as being older…at least older then ME!!!!

ahhh who else remembers the good old days of harvest gold and avocado green…???

i have a great quickie little project for this morning – it has been AGES since i participated in a challenge over at SCS – shameful!  so what better way to get bck into the swing of things than to do today’s Clean & Simple challenge?  it was a sketch based on someone’s card and here is what i came up with:

my colors are taken from the gorgeous new Basic Grey Kioshi collection – susana has the 6×6 pads – SO PERFECT for getting one of each KWIM??  i cut the border from a kioshi piece with a new ek success punch.  i used two Prima Tiny Tots flowers and then stamped the Lockhart Plaid Butterfly with Versamark and embossed him with milled lavendar distress embossing powder (33% off in my store right no).  finished it off with a few of my exclusive pezabling glittering acrylic squares.

i am off to gargle with salt water.  LOTS of posting for tomorrow – i have TIOT AND the artful INKables blog hop!

both of my cards use Jen’s Sketch For You To Try sketches.  she has had a HUGE giveaway going on for the month of February to celebrate coming back after a little maternity leave.

First one:

and my card:

I had some fun experimenting and playing with my new distress inks with this one!  The new colors of Distress inks are TO DIE FOR really.  i never felt like i was missing anything before but i must say i m beyond pleased!  for my background i made 2 perfect pearl mists.  One used Bundled Sage distress reinker with Green Patina Perfect Pearls and the other used Pumice Stone distress reinker with Blue Patina perfect pearls.  I misted a piece of watercolor paper with both colors and then when it was partially dry but still somewhat wet i stamped my background image with tumbled glass.  the moisture caused some wicking and fading of the stamped images which distress inks are so good for.  so i got  really cool vintage-y look with some shimmer to boot!  i finished it off with some Tarnished Brss distress stickles on the corners.  My squares re cut with the George cricut cartridge so they all match perfectly.  i stamped a couple studio G images with brilliance chocolate ink, edged with Bundled Sage using the fom blending tool nd then a dab of Broken China distress stickles.  My flower embellishment is cut with the Storybook Cricut cartridge, edged with Bundled Sage and a dab of Broken China distress stickles in the center.

i loved this look so much i did a bit more experimenting and turned it into a second card for Jen’s current sketch!

and my card:

This time i did the same perfect pearls misting and then used a border stamp rather than a full background stamp.  the patterned paper is from K&Co – my latest paper obssesion!  all of the corners have tarished brass distress stickles as well.

my main image is a Lockhart stamp – Hydrangea & Berries – from SCACD.  i stamped it in versamark and then carefully sprinkled pinches of distress embossing powder over the image.  oh how i wish i had some distress embossing powder and distress stickles to match the new colors…maybe cha july??

my flower embellishment was also cut using the Storybook Cricut cartridge.  i finished it off with one of my exclusive glittered skittles to match!

ALL of my Tim Holtz stuff is marked WAY down so now is  GREAT time to stock up!!!!  i also have all of the perfect pearls in stock!

be sure to check out my project tomorrow for Try It Out Tuesday on the SCACD blog!

Have a great evening!!

TIOT: Buttons

UGH! my camera wouldn’t download my pics and tech support (DH) was sleeping.  he upgraded me to windows 7 this weekend and we are still working out a few kinks but wow do i love it!  hopefully he can fix it up tonight but meanwhile i hijacked Trevor’s computer and got ahold of my pics.
Then this afternoon i geet to run to my doc’s office for….get this….a hang nail.  yep.  i don’t know what’s going on but my thumb is SO swollen and SO painful i swear if anything touches it the pain makes me swoon and get nauseous.  SO i convinced them to squeeze me in so i can see what’s up BEFORE the long weekend.  ooohhh better not interfere with my shopping plans!!!  Michaels Thursday evening for new exclusive cricut carts and walmart at an insane hour in hopes of a cricut expression and a GPS for Drake.  i AM NOT insane enough to get trampled for these items BUT it would be nice to score an expression, especially in a specialty color AND get my hands one those new carts!
if you did not see the new stamps we released yesterday be sure you check yesterday’s post!  Now onto the SHOW!

I used this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch for my card.

Suzanne challenged us to use buttons for Try It Out Tuesday over on the SCACD blog – LOVE me some buttons!  and Susana has the most amazing buttons in the store right now – check these babies out!  Clear AND glitter plus some metallics…deeLISH!  unfortunately they are not living at my house YET (they will be very soon)!!  however i DID have an assortment of Basic Grey buttons on hand (equally yummy in a mix of sizes with some transparent) and some gorgeous matching Basic Grey Indian Summer paper which I used across the top:

I stamped this pretty Lockhart Harvest Window with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copics.  The image has tiny little detail vines so i highlighted those with sparkling Spica Glitter Pens.  I finished it all off with a touch of Autumn Flower Soft.

Flower Soft Tutorial I

As promised – the first of several Flower Soft tutorials!! flower soft is an almost spongy, sprinkly, brightly colored, light as a feather material that gives realistic look & texture to images. for my card i am using the current sketch from SCS ->

And here is my card:

this card was quick and easy to do yet doesn’t look like it 🙂 my kinda thing!! The paper is all SU, crocheted flower is handmade by me and the cool little square embellies have just a touch of pink shimmer! Notice the bead pop in the center of the flower of COURSE!

I chose to use this adorable new Karen Lockhart Stamp – Lilac In Pitcher – from my dear friend Susana’s store – i fell i love with it as soon as it was released and just new i had to have it!

I stamped on white cardstock from Papertrey Ink with Black Memento Dye Ink (one of the best to use with copics.) I only used 6 markers for this image – step 1 shows my first layer of darks (i work from dark to light – i know many people do the opposite…). For the flowers i used RV29 and the vase YG67 – this is an easy stamp because it has the shading sort of built in so i simply followed that. Step 2 i added the mid-tones – RV23 and YG63 and in the last picture i added RV21 and YG11 – color over the previous color you laid down with each lighter color. If you want brighter highlights you can lightly stroke some in with the blender marker or use the ranger inkssentials white gel pen.

And now time for some quick flower soft. I still have a limited supply of colors as it was hard to get for awhile. the larger pots are from last year which i received from Catherine for my birthday, the smaller ones are from a christmas kit i received from the UK and are similar to the container in the new boxed sets I will be carrying in the store.

I mixed the greens to use for the leaves and i mixed the red and pink to use for the flowers.

For now, because i have never had flower soft glue, i used glossy accents. however, after using the glue at the show (CHA) i am a firm convert and ordered extras! but just dab your glue where you want it on the flowers – no need to be to exact here and it is better if you DON’T just cover the entire image. i dabbed it sort of along where the light meets dark on each one.

Then just dump it on. YEP just like that. like glitter. you don’t even have to be neat about it.

i know “SHUT UP” right?

Shake off the excess:

Dump on a little extra fine MS glitter if you like:

next a few dots where there are leaves – no need to cover completely

Again just sprinkle on some green:

And here is your finished jug of flowers!!

I cut mine out with a nesties die and inked the edges.

i thoroughly enjoyed this quick and simple card – i REALLY want to hear what y’all think!

Stamps from my friend Susana…

hi all!
i have taken a break from my little truffle cuties to play with some stamps i have been hoarding from my friend Susana’s shop. She has some newly released Karen Lockhart stamps (which i will be adding to my collection) as well as a super deal to celebrate – If you purchase any 4 regular Lockhart Stamps (any combination) from either the new or previous collection (not including Itty Bittys) you will get to select a free IB from the selection that I have available at the time at my store. You do not need to buy all 4 at once.

I recently got my first lockhearts and decided to put one to use with MJ’s sketch on the right.

I saw this stamp first over on the karen lockhart group on The Planet and just had to have it! i wasn’t really sure how i wanted to do it so i browsed my far too massive paper collection and came across the bright fun stripes – the answer to the dull gray days we’ve been having! so the card stemmed from there:

The flowers are primas and i have some cool glitter dots in the center – also from susana! i decided i liked the sketch so much i used it again for my second card:

this is a serendipity stamp susana carries and i have eyed it a number of times when browsing so i was THRILLED to get it as a surprise one day! my mom paints porcelain and i have done some too so i love painted porcelain – especially the blue and white antique china. so i immediately knew i would ink this up using memento blue danube. i shaded with gray copics and used more glitter dots.

in other news i received some up to the minute info on coming studio G sets – i will be working on those files so i can post them – you can see them later today over in the Studio G group (a challenge and TWO giveaways going on now) on The Planet or here tomorrow! i have FOUR new sets to show you!!!!
