tim’s tag 2 (and then some!)

good morning!

not alot of chitchat today – just project!

i got a chance to play a bit more with some of tim holtz’s 12 tags of christmas this past weekend and here is what i ended up with:

it is another gift bag – this one is basically tag 2 BUT a few modifications and a couple of things borrowed from other tags.  the st. nikolai stamp is from I Brake For Stamps and was drawn by my brother!

by far one of my fave things in the sessions of 12 tags was tim’s twist on the Cuttlebug Smoosh technique i first learned via the Technique Junkies newsletter.  rather than inking the whole embossing folder he stamped on it and then ran it through for embossing.  pure brilliance and huge DUH moment for me!!!  if you look closely at this picture you will see that the tree branches appear to be behind the snowflake swirls.  the tag is cut using my cricut, stamped with distress ink and clear embossed, then inked.

I tried my hand at what tim showed using one of his new facets pieces.  LOVE these pieces but not too happy with how mine turned out – it is too black still 😦  i added a couple of tim’s pearl baubles to my twine along with the facet.

Another trick i pulled from one of the other tags was the enameled metal.  i did not do the UTEE and paint but i did do the distress embossing powders on the metal pieces and i like how it turned out.  the reindeer is also cut on my cricut and then embossed and inked.  something fun i learned about my Imagine – i did the reindeer on my Cricut Imagine so i used white paper and then printed the color, then cut it out.  well that means it has a white core like coordinations pretty much.  so when i embossed it and lightly sanded it a bit i had white paper to ink over!  i further accented him with red viva decor pearl pen.  the red poinsettia is from Wild Orchids.

i thoroughly enjoyed getting down and dirty in my studio – that is my roots and i have strayed pretty far from them since getting into copics 😛  i hope to put a few more of his ideas to use.  i did already take out the lampshade i have been meaning to do for pezza while i was doing colorwash sprays and got the sprayed – it is raspberry and watermelon – always been her two favorite Ranger colors.  next i need to embellish….hhmmmmmmm…..

have a great day!

Viva Decor day 5: ramp up your gift wrapping!

Good morning!

my poor little Pezza is pretty sick this morning 😦  however, her brother had this a few days ago and it seems to be just a 24 stomach thing so i have my fingers crossed for her!

speaking of the older one – we got him a new car yesterday:

it’s a black mustang – he had driven it and wanted it really bad but we weren’t sure about it.  so yesterday kev decided to go for it and went and got it while trev was at school.  it was so fun watching him pull up from school with his friend and see the car in the driveway.

he is a happy camper!

and now why you are really here!

on with today’s idea!  a GREAT gift set – card and wooden gift box!

the card

And today’s giveaway:

  • Wooden gift bag (big box craft stores)
  • Precious Metal Color – Pistachio (Viva Décor)
  • Crackle – Blackberry (Viva Décor)
  • paintbrush
  • plastic pallette knife
  • Stamped image – i stamped mine on watercolor paper using archival ink and then watercolored with distress inks
  • Mod podge
  • Pearl Pen – Lilac and Chrome Silver (Viva Décor)
  • Glitter Liner – Holographic (Viva Décor)
  • White Poinsettias
  • Glue dots
  • Ribbons

Step 1: Paint your wooden piece with Precious Metal Color paint – i am in love with green & purple together and have noticed christmas stuff in this color combo recently, so i decided to do that here.  i used Pistachio for my base coat.

The Precious Metal Color paints are just amazing!  The metallic shimmer is gorgeous and the colors are fantastic.  They work on all surfaces including slick ones and give a wonderful one coat coverage.  Plus they are weather proof and soap and water clean up – really the best of all worlds!

Step 2:  Adhere your stamped image or other focal point using Mod Podge.

My images for both of these are from I Brake For Stamps and hand drawn by my very own immensely talented brother!  (So go check out his whole set ok!  you can buy them in a set or individually).  I would put the link in here for you but for some reason it is not working today 😛

Next use a plastic pallette knife to apply some Crackle paint.  Let’s talk about the crackle for a moment – this stuff ROCKS!  the colors are fantastic, you get alot in the jar and they are allsomewhat metallic.  PLUS you get more random cracks and the cracks are larger which i really like!

i put it on randomly and did not completely cover the whole front because i have that gorgeous Pistachio PMC paint too!

Step 3:  Let’s customize our poinsettias a bit!  The great thing about white flowers is you can do SO many things to them so they match your project completely.  In this case we want them to have some pale purple and some glitter so we use our Viva Decor pens.

It is SO hard to see in the picture but these are from Petaloo and they have a sort of tulle layer on top of the petals.  so i painted the petals with Lilac Pearl pen and then put Holographic Glitter liner on the tulle petals.

Step 4: Put it all together!

In this picture you can really see the crakle – the cracks are not quite as big on paper – the PMC paint is a bit slicker of a surface.  i did try to rub them off – they are on there GOOD!  to finish up i made a bow out of 4 lengths of thin ribbon and attached it along with the flowers.

Next i took a Chrome Silver and Lilac Viva Pearl pen and added some pearls along the handle.

The Viva Pens are incredible – they sink down into perfect little dome shaped pearls automatically with no thumping.

Now remember – leave me a comment for your chance to win today’s group of Viva goodies!  i love to hear what you think!  Are you finding the products ok?  i know one person has already contacted me looking for the silver alcohol ink so do let me know if you are having trouble!  there is a list of retailers on the Viva Decor US site too!

perfect poinsettias

hi all!

well drake headed back home last night.  we had utter baby devastation when he was saying goodbye to pezza.  it was very difficult for all three of us.  she told him her heart felt broken without him 😦  i really hope it is not another year before he visits again.  they are driving his car back so of course i am worried sick and their cell phone is dead 😛

now on to happier things – i have mentioned something big coming and here it is:

feel free to copy the graphic and help spread the word.  Viva Decor has been SO generous and given me lots of very cool products to give away!  that’s good news for ALL OF YOU!!!!  the only thing better than trying out some new products is trying them out for FREE!!!!  there will be a new tutorial every day for 7 days and one lucky commenter will be chosen EVERY DAY to win ALL of the viva products used in that day’s project!!!

i have another Christmas card for ya today – it is another one i feel extra special about because it uses another one of the stamps drawn by my brother James and sold exclusively at I Brake For Stamps!

i used a sketch for this one and have completely forgotten which one but i am fairly certain it was an older one from Splitcoast Stampers.  i used one of my favorite ribbons – this sheer polka dot and made the bow with my bow easy.

Once again as is my brother’s style, this image has perfect shading built right in so i pulled out my VERY neglected twinkling H2Os and set to work.

i chose to make a few of the leaves/petals green for more color.  i LOVE twinks but completely lack the ability to do proper shading with watercolors so i simply painted my colors on and let the stamp’s shading take care of that.  once i was done painting i used a stiff stencil brush to add flecks of gold paint dots across the image.  i have always loved this effect.

be sure to visit Della over at I Brake For Stamps and check out the rest of my brother’s gorgeous vintage Christmas images – just CLICK HERE!

i wrote out my christmas card list yesterday while pezza was in gymnastics – i am about ahlf way done with the cards 😛

well now i am off to me studio to get to work on the finishing touches of that HUGE blog party i am having next week!!!  are YOU coming??!?!??!

i have a Christmas card for ya today.  but not just ANY Christmas card!  this one uses one of the stamps my brother, Dr. James Banos, designed/drew for Della over at I Brake for Stamps!  he is a fantastically talented artist and i love his work so it is great fun for me to have his work in stamp form to work with.

i LOVE my brother’s stamps because they are SO detailed, SO realistic AND the shading is built in for you!  so these are a great way to make some quick, easy, fabulous cards!  for santa i simply stamped with black ink and colored with one color of copics – easy, done and gorgeous!  rather than ink the edges of my nestie die cut i decided to highlight the edges with dots using a gold paper pen by viva decor.  i added the strip of gold microbeads using Scor Tape – love that stuff!

be sure to head over and take a look at the rest of my brother’s stamps at I Brake For Stamps!  each one is a work of art!

now off to get my day moving!

suzanne gave us girls a sketch to work with this week and i really liked it! all of the girls have done some wonderful things with it! i REALLY love the Collage Stamps susana has in the store from I Brake For Stamps so i used one of those for both my patterned paper and my focal image:
i have had an idea for the Crafter’s Workshop templates in the store for awhile and i finally got a chance to play with them a little bit on this card. i started with off white paper and stamped my collage image on it but did not cover it completely. Next i laid a crafter’s workshop template over it and misted LIGHTLY from a dsitance with Maya Mist – i think the effect is gorgeous! and quite simple too! also because i misted so lightly there was very little drying time for this! I also misted some of the white flowers susana has in the same way. It paired up perfectly with a piece from the Kraft Basic Grey pad.

My focal image is the same collage stamp which i cut out using a circle nestie and then mounted on the Eyelet Pendant. i added a prima pearl center to my flower grouping and then added some Viva Decor Cream Pearl Pen pearls around the Pendant. i finished up with 3 Robin’s Nest Diamond Drops at the top center of the card.
The Maya Mists and Crafter’s Workshop templates offer such a HUGE amount of creative freedom! i just LOVE them!
Susana is greatly increasing the altering fun over at the store and has created a section just for that so be sure to keep an eye on it as new products are added and we all stretch our creativity to the MAX!

In addition we have some FUN goings on tomorrow so we will surely SEE YOU THEN!!!
