A cherry on top (and not the store!)

hi everyone!

wow so where did THIS day go?!?!?!  i usually do my posts first thing in the morning!  We spent a good bit of the day running errands BLECH!  none to anywhere real fun…you know like Joanns…

but i DO have a fun post for ya today!  i got a chance to play with one of my fave new Artful INKables sets – Spot On Summer – this set uses little buttons as part of the images – i just LOVE that!  If you have not checked out the cute sets over at Artful Inkables head on over!!!

I used the following challenges for inspiration:

Mojo – Sketch
Splitcoast Stampers – Color Challenge – muted blue, red, kraft
Aly’s Sunday Challenge – Under/by the sea – i always think of eating ice cream on the beach!
Practical Scrappers – Summer themed
Papertake Weekly – something old, new, borrowed OR blue

And here is my card – simple and fun i think!

I used some paper from a K&Co paper pad and a couple of border punches.

I stamped and colored my ice cream cone and then added a bright red button in the place of the cherry tied with some embroidery floss.  The sentiment is also from this same set.

i finished it off with some sparkling red Pezabling square acrylic pieces and a glittering red skittle.

i have been working diligently on some great stuff for the upcoming issue of Through the Craft Room Door – will you be getting a copy???  don’t miss out!  you have 2 days to get your subscription in for this issue!!!  CLICK HERE

See ya back here tomorrow!!!

a mojo bday

happy tuesday all!  pezzy is in playschool this morning so that means i get an extra couple hours to myself!!

i just gotta tell y’all something funny DH did/said while we were watching tv sunday night.   awhile back i made DH subscribe to my blog cuz i was having trouble with something and needed to run a test subscription.  it turns out he actually READS it!

well, i am AVID about crime drama – books, movies, tv shows – can’t get enough. always have been.  so USA channel was running an NCIS marathon this weekend and pezzy ACTUALLY went right to sleep so DH came back down and we got to watch a tv show together {rare}.  well on this particular NCIS a seriel killer was the main character and he kept a book with a photo of all of his vitims and referred to it as a scrapbook.  so after the umpteenth reference to the *scrapbook*he turns and looks at me and {totally straight face} says wow that is some lame scrapbook.  and i say yea cuz i mean – it’s murder victims right.  and HD says i mean he has no embellies or anything -ROTFL!  never did i think i would hear the word embellie come out of his mouth much less hear him use it correctly in a sentence!!  that’s the second time he’s done that!

and now on to the show….

Mojo104Sketch i got a project done yesterday cuz pezzy NAPPED!

i decided to do this week’s mojo monday sketch – i tend to stay away from circles.  they instantly scare me which is ridiculous since i have several nesties and a cricut.  i think it is a knee jerk reaction to my early days of limited supplies and never managing to cut a decent circle!  anyway i decided to jump right in:

037

i also avoid little strips that stop in the middle of the card because i can never think of a clever way to approach them but like i said – free time so i jumped in!    the party hat is from doodlecharms – cricut cart and i stickled it too.  man i love that thing!  it has been neglected for awhile but i have been incorporating it more lately since it is just so darn cool!  my SU demo has had one – an E no less – for months and it is still in the box!!!!  the horror!  i am supposed to go over tomorrow and show her how to use it.  i  edged EVERYTHING in rich cocoa – the card was really washed out without it!

038the main image is from my Polka Dot Pie collection – Chocolate Treats 1.  i colored the frosting, pieced the wrapper and stickled the swirl.

of COURSE i used a few glittered skittles for the little accents!

this will go out to the next one up on my bday list.

have a happy stampy day!

My Sketch 13

Melissa has this fun sketch up for this week and as always – there is a prize up for grabs from Lindsay at Sassy Studio Designs!!

 Photobucket

I had SO many ideas for this I may just have to make another one if I get time this week!

Here is mine:

tuesAMcard

This was SUCH a fun little card to do!  the patterned paper is one of my MOST favorite ones from SU.  I decided this was a perfect sketch to break out a just rite stamper set from my friend terri at Stampsalive – she always has great prices if you are looking for anything just rite, cuttlebug, cricut or spellbinders!  so on the top circle i used a border and a center sentiment piece.  then on the bottom circle i just used the border piece to frame my birds a bit.  i thought the side pieces would be great for little cricut border cuts – i edge my cuts with an ink blending foam tool – makes it quick and easy.

tuesAM close upthe larger bird is grungepaper – cuts nicely in the Cricut with the deep cut blade!  i embossed the grungepaper, painted it with a paint dabber, sanded lightly, rubbed on distress ink – ink only sticks where the paints is rubbed off by the sanding.  i gave them a little flower soft *dirt* to stand in and finished off with a machine stitched edging (thanks to DH for fixing my machine for me – he’s awesome!) and a row of glittered skittles where melissa had brad – looking things on her sketch – i gotta say the skittles really MADE the card.  wish i had taken before and after pics!

i SO need to use my cricut more like i used to!!  much cheaper addiction than stamping!

SOOOOOO…….i am STILL recovering from all the shenanigans of a high school graduation/family in town.  my (ex) in-laws (i love them) left monday and took the 16 YO with them,  they sat on their plane on the runway for 4 1/2 hours!!!  then their flight was cancelled so they spent the night in a hotel and made it tosan diego yesterday.  i also dropped my mom off at the airport yesterday and then i will pick my brother up saturday afternoon for a BRIEF visit and then drop him BACK off at the airport sunday – YIKES!  he gets research funding from NIH and has to fly up here to present every few months so he always squeezes in a stop here afterward and then heads back home to birmingham.  unfortunately my *spare room* is in my craft room – it’s actually all in one big area in the basement BUT when i have folks here they are always sleeping when i would normally be crafting SO not much done lately and i am way behind with some deadlines.  ONE of which includes the not yet released SEI christmas lines – OH WOW!  they arrived yesterday and they are both OH SO YUMMY so you will want to watch out for those next month when CHA starts.

i DO have a little card for you today tho.  it is actually half my mom’s – she is an artist and does many of my stamp designs including all the nestie frames i have been using lately.  she had never used copics and never does any stamping though.  so she played with them a bit and here is one of her images.  i used an alcohol inked piece from my alcohol ink demo class and some nana’s kitchen paper:

SC234

SC234

it was kind of funny (and kind of not) how we all struggle so much learning to use the copics and she just sat down and colored it right up with no effort.

sc234 close up

however she has such a long history in art in all manner of mediums and also teaches art classes soooo…….

see those cute little red skittles??  yep RED GLITTERED SKITTLES!  they arrived yesterday and ALL preorders have been sent out!!!!  more on that tomorrow so be sure you don’t miss it!

and no wi am off to the grocery store *sigh* i gotta tell ya i am exhausted!!!
