mmmmmmmm Glitt-tah!

*edited* apparently this did not post yesterday grrrr!

hi friends!

i hope everyone’s week has been off to a good start.  i think most of us are gearing up for the end of school for the summer.  trev graduates so i will have one year free from school stuff and then start over again 😛  and speaking of trevor and school – i will admit i am not a big fan of our school system – i believe it is fundamentally broken.  and this morning i discovered one shining example.  raise your hand if you were one of *those* kids who ended up with detention back in the day *hand goes up in the air*  in my day it was done as saturday school.  can i just tell you how BIG a bummer it was to have to show up at school at 9am m ON A SATURDAY and sit there for 5 friggin hours?????  while there we had to sit in silence and either do homework or read.  no talking, no music, nothing.  well fast forward to today. trevor, being the senior at the end of the race that he is this year, has been staying up way too late and having a really hard time getting himself out of bed in time in the morning.  so i get a letter yesterday – he has had 5 tardies and received 2 days of in-school restriction.  ok what’s that?  i haven’t noticed him spending any extra time at school…so i ask him.  in school restriction means that instead of reporting to class he goes to a different room where he sits and listens to his ipod all day and does school work if he has any – which he does not.  everything is turned in and done.  shoot i am thinking if it was me i would push for some more of that – instead of sitting in class doing boring busy work to pass the time in my class, head over to ISR and do nothing or do whatever i want while listening to my ipod…..and no extra time taken away from me – just what i already spend at school…..

had momma josephine and the babies back in to the doc again today – she is losing fur in giant clumps but the doc says it is a natural hormonal thing after giving birth just like humans.  Berlioz – the one who sleeps ALL the time is 1 POUND NOW!  the other two are close behind.  tonight they are going to try their hand at eating some canned cat food for the first time.  in my experience they end up wearing alot more of it than they eat but momma won’t mind cleaning up THAT mess!  there are a couple pics at the end of this post.

ok enough of my rambling!

Colored Pencil Class 2 is coming THIS WEEK to the Color Me Creative online classroom!  that’s right – it will open on Friday though i believe Suzanne might open registration ahead of time to get folks set up.  i know i have had ALOT of requests for the follow up to Class 1.  In class 1 we covered alot of basics – how to find your light and shadow, different blending techniques for pencils, skin coloring, most hair coloring and a number of different colors.  Class 2 will expand into more specialized techniques and situations – African American hair, coloring white objects, how to ground an image, coloring wood, glass, fur, advanced shading techniques, detailing with prisma Verithins and other topics.  it should be lots of fun!

  • School
  • Summer Fun
  • Mad about ribbon
  • Sketch Challenge – can be a card, tag, scrapbook layout, gift bag or anything else you can dream up as long as it is obvious how the sketch was used!

i think our sketch this month is really fabulous (that’s because i made it HHAHAHAHAHHA!)

my card today is a celebration of all things sparkly for the following challenges:

Paperplay – Sparkle Galore
Stamp Something – Beachy Colors

I was unbelievably fortunate enough to receive the entire collection of Martha Stewart Glitters recently to review for Craft Critique and this is a background I made with Pezza using her fine glitters.  it is super easy and really packs a punch!  just take some of the non stick backing from things like a xyron machine, scor tape or wonder tape sheets or something similar (wax paper would probably work.)  cut the shapes using a die cut machine (the cricut did not work as it did not stick to the mat.)  Next cover a piece of cardstock cut to size with sticky – wonder tape, scor pal sheets or xyron works best.  now place your non-stick shapes to the sticky how you want them.  pour your background color glitter over the whole paper to adhere to the exposed sticky.  shake off and remove your masks – either all or some depending on how many colors you want to use.  here i removed the flowers first and poured blue glitter over the exposed sticky.  then i peeled off the scrolls and covered with glitter.  now spray a light coat of fixative (by Krylon) over the glittered surface and the glitter will STAY PUT.  i added a few felt and skittle flower centers and a base with *hi* adhered to it.  talk about fast & easy!  Pezza’s eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw it!  the same technique can easily be used with flock, or sparkle fibers…

and now for some cuteness…

josephine LOVES to be pet…

and the babies are starting to like it to.  little Gingersnap is even working on her purring – it is much louder now btu totally hit or miss – sounds like an engine coughing and sputtering…..notice how much bigger the grey one on the right is – that is Berlioz, fat little thing.  his belly drags the ground when he walks!

and now i am off to prepare for my meeting with my buddy suzanne tonight – we have lots of plotting and scheming to do!!!  we are having dinner at clyde’s – belated bday celebrations – our bdays are only a day apart!  we have LOADS to catch up on too as we don’t hang out nearly as much as we’d like to!

TTCRD02: glitter & wings…

woohoo monday!  NOT!

i am on my own this week with little miss make-my-momma-crazy EEK!  i hate when hubby is out of town.  totally throws me off and i can’t sleep so by the time he gets home i will be a walking zombie.  YAY can’t wait….Pezza doesn’t like it either.  she was NOT pleased last night when momma had to do bedtime with her 😛  not a night person = not a fun bed time person.  in addition it says rain for the next 6 days in the weather forecast so i can’t even kick her out back with the neighbor girl she adores.

Colored Pencil Class – I am hosting a live chat for my colored pencil class tonight on the main page of Color Me Creative from 7pm – 8pm eastern time.  this is a great opportunity for my students to get some real time help or just chat about ideas or struggles they might have.  it is also a great time for NON students to come and chat and find out more about the class.  so if you are curious come on over and join us!

Want to take the class for free???  my buddy susana is giving one away as blog candy along with a full sheet of her newest stamps – the Natural Beauty collection by Carmen Medlin for SCACD!!!  Just head over to the SCACD blog to check out the details.  Also make sure you stop by the super talented Lori’s blog to see sneak peek #2!

i had the joy of basking in oodles of Martha Stewart glitter all weekend for a review i was writing for Craft Critique (there’s a great white cardstock comparison up over there today BTW.)  i will admit that my first love in the glitter world is Art Institute BUT i have to admit Martha Stewart is equally fabulous (her AND her glitter!!!)  This card is also for our SECOND challenge over at Through the Craft Room Door – things with wings – we would love to have you join in for a chance to win a $15 gift Certificate to the wonderful Paper Makeup Stamps:

In addition today’s card uses the May Sketch For You To Try and is inspired by the following other challenges:

Papertake Weekly – Punches/die cuts
Paperplay – Anything Goes
Stamp Something – Anything Goes
Daring CardMakers – Bugs

I finally got a chance to pull out the Florals Embellished Cricut cartridge – oh my goodness is it fantastic!  Not only is my bird from the cartridge but also the matching circles the bird and butterfly are mounted on.

The patterned paper is from a couple of Martha Stewart paper pads and have some really pretty glittered accents on them.

Here is a better look at my glittering – I used two different glitter styles – fine on the butterfly and tinsel on the stripe.

Tinsel glitter is really cool stuff – instead of crushed specks of glitter it is in little slivers so you get a fuzzy textured effect when you use it – just like the traditional Christmas tinsel garland.  i just put a strip of Scor Tape on my card front:

Then just peel off the paper and sprinkle on the glitter:

see the fuzzy-ness?!  cool right?

I also glittered a chipboard butterfly from one of the Maya Roads Minis at SCACD.  I started by covering it with Glossy Accents and then sprinkling on a heavy dose of glitter and letting it dry.

Once dry and put another thick layer of Glossy Accents on top of the glitter.  this gives it a cool epoxy-like look while maintaining full glittery-ness!  You can see the difference above – the right side has the Glossy Accents on top.  It’s fitting to be using Jen’s sketch for this one since i got this idea from her blog!

now i am off to get us dressed for the day…and perhaps get more coffee…..

Pezza Way Day!!

woohoo friday!!

i am very excited about our weekend plans – we are FINALLY going camping!!!  this will be pezza’s first!  i camped TONS with the boys when they were kids and they always loved it.  but we have not been camping since i got pregnant so we are itchin’ to go!!  i have NO idea what to expect with pezza – i hope she isn’t constantly taking off through the woods or something and stays at our campsite.  we leave tonight and then come back sunday afternoon.  i will also NOT be bringing my computer and hubby better not be on his either!!  who knows we may both spontaneously combust from lack of being plugged in 😛

i could use the break as i have been working frantically finishing two new Cricut classes to ge up and running over on Color Me Creative – I will have a Get to Know Your Cricut and Pagoda Cartridge Exploration – Super fun classes!!!  You should see registration go up for those this week!!

before i go i have a special post today – more Pezza’s Way!!

I saw this technique at GASC a couple weeks ago while i was hanging out in the Art Institute Glitter booth (yes i know – y’all are sick of hearing about them!!)  anywho i thought it would be a fun one to do with Pezza and she insisted on filming it of course!  here is her finished piece:

and boy does it SPARKLE!!!

i couldn’t even get my camera to focus!!  the cute little tag is a spellbinders die and two studio G stamps.

how did she do it???  take a look for yourself – easy and OH SO AMAZING!!

Just Buggin’ Challenge Time! #23 – LOVE…

we are battening down the hatches for what my hubby is calling the snowpocalypse (insert dripping sarcasm here).  we will supposedly be getting 20″ – 30″ of snow in our area today and tomorrow.  he is home from work today so i am WAY HAPPY about all that snow coming down (sorry suzanne) even if it DID cancel my mardi gras Close To My Heart party tomorrow.  i don’t know why but i love to shovel snow!  i sure don’t like doing much else that’s useful…

today’s project is for the current Just Buggin’ Challenge – Love Ya – make something for Valentine’s Day using you cricut.  Pezzy & I found some cute wreath makin’s in the Ms $1 bin and a heart-shaped grapevine wreath and I got this idea:

in keeping with my new wreath kick that started t Christmas…

i cut several shapes fro my Weddings Solutions Cricut Cart and tucked them into the other wreath picks.  I cut the shadow base shapes from  sturdier piece of cardboard off the back of one of my paper stacks (it was white so it fit easily into the scheme.)

it doesn’t show in the pictures but i cut the base shape from pale pink cardstock and then misted them with pearl mist made from water and Blush Perfect Pearls to give them some shimmer.  if you are not into making your own mist i HIGHLY recommend the Smooch Spritz which is a GREAT deal AND works better than any of the others – you cn get it at SCACD and Susana has all the new colors in too!!  >>CLICK HERE<<

Finally – to really jazz them up – i enhanced the top layers of the diecuts. I covered the first one in Martha Stewart Tinsel Glitter – GREAT fun stuff!!!  makes me think of fuzzy pipe cleaners with loads of glitz!  This is also available at SCACD >>HERE<< in TWO SUPER combo packs of mini vials (which is really all you need)  – One is regular colors and one is iridescent YUMMY!!  the center pic shows a die cut that i covered in pink Martha Stewart Metallic microbeads.  This last one i covered in clear Martha Stewart microbeads.  i know it is glaring but seriously – i could not get a NOT glaring picture which is kinda cool!

NOW HOW do you stick those things to the intricate die cuts???  SUPER easy.  i just ran them FACE DOWN through my xyron machine, make sure there is no adhesive *goobers* off the edges of the paper, and then cover it with glitter or microbeads – sticks WONDERFULLY!!  i don’t use my xyron to glue EVERYTHING down as the refills are expensive but they ARE indispensible for certain techniques like this and one i will be showing soon where i use my die cuts as stencils for a new product coming soon.

well time for me to run out & collect all the stuff that we left lying around the backyard from the last snow play day – like the shovel, the sled….cover the firepit…before the snowpocalypse hits!!  be sure and visit the Just Buggin’ Challenge blog to see what the other DTs have done with this challenge to get you inspired!!!

have a great day!!!
