Sketch For You To Try

Another Easter card today!

I used Jen’s SFYTT for the LO of the card:

And I used Ashley’s Etsy Inspired challenge as the inspiration for the embellie in Jen’s sketch – here is my inspiration piece from Handmade by Rebecca:

AND the card:

easter fun
easter fun

I LOVE this paper I ran across in my stash from blossoms and butterflies. I thought it would make a great background for the embellie. I just stamped in versamark and then embossed with silver embossing powder. next i covered the back of the Tim Holtz fragment piece with glossy accents and laid it over the embossing. i kind of moved it around a bit to get the glossy accents spread completely under the piece and then smooshed out the air bubbles so it is perfectly clear.  All of the stamps are from the My Favorite Things Hoppy Easter set which is CHOCK FULL of very cute little easter images AND on sale right now for almost half price!!!  the images are colored with prismas and gamsol – yep i pulled out my poor neglected pencils!  the top panel has an images stamped in versamark and dusted with perfect pearls sunflower sparkle and then accented with dots of liquid pearls.  the easter egg is also decorated with liquid pearls.  a great way to add dimension and a bit of shimmer quickly!

I get ALOT of questions about liquid pearls versus dimensional pearls versus perfect pearls and i see even more questions and confusion out on the boards.  SO I decided to start monthly Product Spotlight segments which will be headed up by catherine  and other members of the playgroup will play along as well.  tomorrow i will kick things of by having an in depth comparison and info on the different options to get a little shimmer going on your projects.  After that we will have LOTS of ideas, techniques and tutorials on the shimmer i carry in the store – perfect pearls, dimensional pearls, liquid pearls and brilliance pearlescent inks.  so i DO hope you check in here often as well as on the other Pezzy Playgroup blogs.  Be sure to let us know your thoughts on our info and tutorials AND if you have any requests for future product spotlights let us know!

Etsy Inspired fun!

I am so excited – Pez-A-Doodle is sponsoring the Etsy Inspired challenge this week! YAY! i only recently discovered this challenge and have been emailing back n forth with ashley ever since and i just think she is SUCH a sweetie! so I am so happy to have a chance to sponsor a prize for her challenge as I think she does a tremendous thing getting some etsy shops a little exposure! i LOVE to shop on etsy! The prize is a $20 gift certificate to my website and ashley also has a coupon posted so head over there and have a look!

This week’s featured shop is TR Mack and wow i had just tons of ideas for this one – BUT only time to create one so here it is:

the main panel is a little trick i learned from tim holtz’s class at CHA. i cut the flower out on my cricut and then glued it to a piece of cardstock. i ran that through my xyron putting the sticky ON THE FRONT and then covered it with heavy duty tin foil. i used a large paper blending stump to smooth the tin foil down and get the design to show through really well. next i alcohol inked it really well. then i sanded lightly and brushed over the flower with staz on ink.

the background is the double cuttlebug technique i learned over on debbie’s die cuts. i added larger inked circles with various objects on my table like the end of a pen.

i used this week’s SCS sketch challenge for the layout.

and now off to finish prepping for class tonight! can’t wait to see everyone!

be sure to tune in tomorrow when i announce the next studio G challenge!

don’t forget tomorrow is the last day to submit for the design team call!

etsy inspired and totally tim!

DT call going on now – click HERE for the details and see how you can apply!!!!!

i just love Ashley’s etsy inspired challenges and i am SO happy when i am able to participate in one! the etsy shop this week is Expressing You and they sell fantastic vinyl wall decor. i don’t know that any ONE piece inspired me it was sort of a combination of the modern one with big flowers and the branches and leaves and nature themes in general…..anyway – i had this wooden frame that has been on my table for more than a week that i wanted to make for my dad. it was all crackle painted and i had the digi page done and printed but i just could not decide what to do on the frame and then i browsed Expressing You and here is where it led me:

it is a gift for my dad for his bday *SHHHH Paula don’t tell* – and yes it has flowers which is not manly but the focus of the picture makes it ok i think 🙂

the pics are my grandparents and my dad as a child back in 1940s Cuba before it all came crashing down. the digi elements are from flerg’s strawberry delight over at scrapbook graphics – LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

i had SO MUCH fun doing this – a total first for me – i may just have to do more *hybrid* stuff!

i started by painting the entire wood frame from Michaels with a Mushroom paint dabber. Then i covered the front with a thick layer of Crackle Paint in Old Paper.

i crocheted the flowers myself and used a few Sands of Time Bead pops *AKA skittles* for the centers.

Then came the Grungeboard – i got the letters from the plain minis set and the ferns from the Nature Set, embossed the ferns with my cuttlebug and painted them all with a Lettuce Paint Dabber. Once dry I rubbed over the embossing with Tim’s sanding grip and then sponged on vintage photo distressed ink to the exposed grungeboard.

now i don’t know about anyone else but i NEVER seem to have enough grungeboard swirls. so i got a Hello Kitty sizzix bigz die that has swirls and flowers the last time i was in Joanns and it worked perfectly! i painted them with the mushroom paint dabber and then covered them with worn lipstick distress stickles and the letters with scattered straw distress stickles.

this bottom corner has my Butterflies A Flutter stamped in archival black ink which looks cool over the crackle paint.

and in a last flurry of tim holtz inspired creating i FINALLY finished this bday scrapbook title for one of the girls over on scrapping friends. they have a wishing well board which is just THE most awesome idea EVER and she was looking for a birthday item for a teenage boy – boys/men can be so tough once you can’t get away with cutesy!

anyway i came up with this based loosley on a 12 tags of 2008 tutorial:

i started with black textured cardstock and stamped my pezadoodle cobblestone background all over in versamark. covered that with clear embossing powder and heated to melt. once it was cool i covered the whole thing with a lettuce paint dabber. when it was dry i wiped over it with a slightly damp paper towel so the paint would come off of the embossing. i punched out various style letters from the grungeboard alpha set and covered them really well with distress stickles in faded jeans, scattered straw and peeled paint. once dry i inked the edges with tea dye distress ink. the 13 is from the Seasonal grungeboard set and run through the cuttlebug distressed stripes embossing folder then sponged with faded jeans distress ink. the party shapes are cut with the celebrations cricut cartridge – the blue is SEI velvet paper which really adds to the overall look.

so what do you think???? does it work for a BOYS 13th bday page?????

a 3 for 1 – gotta love that!

so i managed to cover THREE challenges in one card!!! how crazy is that? I used the colors for this week’s SCS challenge – CC205, i used Jen’s sketch ->
AND it is also for a new challenge i stumbled across via ashley (etsy inspired challenge) and found on Libby’s blog called Courtney’s Closet. Courtney just turned one and each week Libby posts her picture and you create a card inspired by her outfit. and HOORAY! i stumbled onto the one that is a contest too! and a prize of goodies i don’t already have SWEEEEEEEEEEET!
ok ok right – card:
so the CC205 challenge was pink pirouette, kiwi kiss and perfect plum – i LOVE perfect plum – ALOT. plus i love purple and green together PLUS the inspiration picture from Courtney’s Closet on libby’s blog had pink in it so hey! and then Jen’s sketch was on my table so i just went with it and it all came together. i stamped the Polkadot Pie image with versamark and then randomly brushed it with perfect pearls in turquoise, forever violet and patina green so it would be colorful like the wording on courtney’s cupcake shirt. the bottom piece representing courtney’s dark pink pants is a piece of glossy cardstock done with alcohol inks using tims “twist and dismount” technique- he used it on one of the 12 tags this year and again in his class at CHA . added the frosty pink and plum square embellies (you’ll be seeing more of those here soon!) and a couple clay cupcakes i made yesterday, embossed the pink panel and there it is.

here is a better pic of the shimmery goodness on this cupcake – oh man i love perfect pearls – just NOTHIN like them! i hope to do a bit of shimmer-y comparisons next week.

Studio G ATC size Valentine challenge….

Oh goodness i had WAY too much fun with these! i did all 8 in about 2 hours – pretty quick i think!
This first one is also from the etsy inspired challenge over on Hearthugsdesigns:
the etsy shop this week is Scrap-n-scribe – THE most adorable hairbows! anyway there are two different kinds of bows that i thought would look great on cards and here is one of them.

and now the whole set of 8 ATC valenties i made:

SO again – ATC size is 3.5″ x 2.5″ – so i gathered up my bittersweet pezzy picks kit goodies first and cut 8 pieces of solid Bazzill 5″ x 3.5″ and folded them in half. from there i picked out a tag sketch from the page maps page, some bittersweet patterned paper and selected a studio G stamp or two and went to town. i only had three inks out – all brilliance dew drops – chocolate, orchid and red poppy. i also had cinnamon stickles, ruby liquid pearls and pink liquid pearls along with my bittersweet clay embellies i made and the ribbon from the Pezzy’s picks kit. this made it easy because everything i grabbed matched 🙂 i did throw in a crocheted heart on one of them too.
i just love using the clay embellishments and have had ALOT of folks asking if i will be selling them – i do have some plans too that are in the works but no release date for you yet. there will be a birthday line, some little critters (of course) and easter. the easter ones will be made to match some of the new paper collections released at CHA. now where DID i put that coffee……..i am going to need it!! hahahah!

i really want to see what other folks come up with so be sure to come back and leave me a link! also don’t forget we have a polkadot pie contest running at the same time!

couple sketches for ya – studio G and SHIMMERZ – yummo!

hi! i am so behind on my sketch challenges so i am posting a two in one for ya today! the first card uses Jen’s sketch from last week ->

AND incorporates a new challenge i stumbled across that i just LOVE (tho i find it VERY challenging)! Ashley over on heart hugs designs does an etsy inspired challenge. now this is cool! features a new etsy artist each time and then you browse the site and base your project on something there. the one posted last saturday featured the artwork of autumn russell – she draws fashion type stuff which is totally hot right now AND her work is FABBY BUT not really my thing… i had no idea what i was going to use….

and then i realized why i love studio Gs so much!! there’s nothing i don’t have!! so i pulled down my binder, flipped through and sure enough it came to me! there were some incredible pics of high heel shoes and i remembered seeing some in the studio Gs (and thinking how i would NEVER EVER use them) so i found an assortment and picked out two shoe stamps, a purse and a sentiment and here is what i ended up with:

i think it is kinda cute even! i stamped in poppy, then orchid, then lightening black brilliance inks on each panel. Placed a prima for the embellishment and added a few bead pops from the cupid mix.

next up is the sketch from OCCC last saturday (hey i told you i was a bit behind….) ->

i decided to ink up another FABBY stamp – fairy with rose – from my friend susana’s shop:

as soon as i saw it i knew i wanted to do faux watercolor with it and i love the result! i inked up the stamp with memento dew drops – the little dew drops are perfectly sized and shaped for precision inking in a hurry. once it was all inked i held it at arms length and misted lightly with water, then stamped onto watercolor paper.

i painted her dress and winges with opal SHIMMERZ from susana’s shop – i tried to capture it in this photo…..

IRL it is awesome and shimmery in just the right spots.

i finished it off with some little clay flowers i made to match.

well i am back to work on some things i am planning…….

have a stampy weekend!!
