both of my cards use Jen’s Sketch For You To Try sketches.  she has had a HUGE giveaway going on for the month of February to celebrate coming back after a little maternity leave.

First one:

and my card:

I had some fun experimenting and playing with my new distress inks with this one!  The new colors of Distress inks are TO DIE FOR really.  i never felt like i was missing anything before but i must say i m beyond pleased!  for my background i made 2 perfect pearl mists.  One used Bundled Sage distress reinker with Green Patina Perfect Pearls and the other used Pumice Stone distress reinker with Blue Patina perfect pearls.  I misted a piece of watercolor paper with both colors and then when it was partially dry but still somewhat wet i stamped my background image with tumbled glass.  the moisture caused some wicking and fading of the stamped images which distress inks are so good for.  so i got  really cool vintage-y look with some shimmer to boot!  i finished it off with some Tarnished Brss distress stickles on the corners.  My squares re cut with the George cricut cartridge so they all match perfectly.  i stamped a couple studio G images with brilliance chocolate ink, edged with Bundled Sage using the fom blending tool nd then a dab of Broken China distress stickles.  My flower embellishment is cut with the Storybook Cricut cartridge, edged with Bundled Sage and a dab of Broken China distress stickles in the center.

i loved this look so much i did a bit more experimenting and turned it into a second card for Jen’s current sketch!

and my card:

This time i did the same perfect pearls misting and then used a border stamp rather than a full background stamp.  the patterned paper is from K&Co – my latest paper obssesion!  all of the corners have tarished brass distress stickles as well.

my main image is a Lockhart stamp – Hydrangea & Berries – from SCACD.  i stamped it in versamark and then carefully sprinkled pinches of distress embossing powder over the image.  oh how i wish i had some distress embossing powder and distress stickles to match the new colors…maybe cha july??

my flower embellishment was also cut using the Storybook Cricut cartridge.  i finished it off with one of my exclusive glittered skittles to match!

ALL of my Tim Holtz stuff is marked WAY down so now is  GREAT time to stock up!!!!  i also have all of the perfect pearls in stock!

be sure to check out my project tomorrow for Try It Out Tuesday on the SCACD blog!

Have a great evening!!

want to distress??

well i am happy to report we are dodging the bullet this time and getting only rain today instead of snow!!!  yesterday it was 47 degrees and pezzy and i were running errands with no coats because it felt so good!

then we got a weird site when we arrived home.  new folks just moved in next door this weekend.  so we pull in and they are also getting out of the car – a dad, two boys probably 8 & 10 or slightly older and a pre-teen girl.  so i am talking to pez, oh look the new neighbors have kids, blah blah blah and one of the boys – IN THE FRONT YARD – drops his pants and starts peeing in the yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  *SCREECH* the worst part, the dad looked at him and said NOTHING!!!!  pez is saying what is he doing?   i mean we aren’t talking about a 3 year old here…..SOOOO i can’t wait to see what else is in store….the last two sets were awful, the first ones moved out in the middle of the night EEK!

ok onto funner things…

the DT call for creative inspirations paints is now closed – i will be getting back to everyone very soon!  wtch for an announcement on the CI blog!

talk about productive in my studio yesterday!!  it helped that kevin woke up with pezzy so i got some UNINTERRUPTED play time WOO HOO!  i finished 5 projects and 4 video tutorials!!!!!!  HOLY COW!  i find it funny thta sometimes i spend time down there and get very little accomplished and then sometimes i am AMAZED out how much i accomplish!

as many of you remember i had a big giveaway when i hit 100K blog hits and i asked everyone to tell me what products they have that go unused or what tips would they like to see.  One that i get alot was about achieving the *distressed look* on your papercrfts.  Now this topic could make an entire BOOK but i thought it would be helpful to give just some basic tips for starting out or for the occasional distressed project.  the video features steps for making THIS card:

i used patterned paper from a K&Co pad that has an overall *ditressed* look to it.  I crocheted the embellies using a book called beyond the square – if you only get ONE book to crochet embellies this should be the one!!  the medallion has a little glittered skittle in the center.  the flourish accent on the pink panel is by Inkadinkado and stamped with versamark and then embossed with antique linen distress embossing powder.  You can find more details and a quick how to in my latest Stamping Basics video:
i hope you have found it helpful!  be sure to let me know and leave requests if you have them!

For Try It Out Tuesday over on the SCACD store blog Suzanne challenged us to use 3 layers and 3 layers ONLY on our card.

In addition my card covers several other challenges as well:

SFYTT  – Weekly sketch challenge
Paperplay – Birthday
Frosted Designs – Star
Hand Full Of Stamps – Open Fun
Fussy & Fancy – Dazzle Us
OCCC – Something Old thats new (SB pendants)
Technique Junkies Technique – Antiqued Shimmers

i have a fun card to show you today using an amazing but simple technique for your background:

Layer 1 – you can see the shimmer at the top a bit in the pic – in real life it is AWESOME! it is a bit of twist on an oldie but goodie – wrinkle free distress. to achieve it simply take two distress ink pads and smoosh them onto your craft sheet keeping the colors overlapping but not mixed into each other. next instead of misting with water you mist with smooch spritz in 2 colors until the ink begins to bead. Next simply lay your cardstock face down in the puddle and move around a bit to cover and pick up to dry. for this card i used shabby shutters and tumbled glass distress inks and vanilla and spun sugar smooch spritz. next i stamped randomly with this cute little lockhart three packages itty bitty.

** i DID NOT come up with this idea on my own (though i can’t believe it never occurred to me to combine two of my fave things!)  NOPE i got it from the Technique Junkies newsletter.  this is an INVALUABLE resource for ideas and ways to really get the most out of your supplies.  Pat is AWESOME and this is the BEST subscription i get out of all of them – far surpasses my magazines to be quite honest**

Layer 2 – i used the large lattice pendant spellbinders die on the side and cut it in half.

Layer 3 – i used a bit of paper from the gorgeous Basic Grey Lily Kate collection.

Layers 1 & 3 are inked with peeled paint and vintage photo using  a foam ink blending tool and then i distressed the edges.

i finished it off with star cut out with the George cricut cart and a pretty little bronze button tied with brown scrappers floss. not difficult, not time consuming but loads of WOW factor!

now off to finish those cupcke holders!!

Tues Morning sketch time…

hi all!!

i am writing this up friday night to post in the morning.  we are getting loads of snow here YAY!!  i went out and did  bit of shoveling – i LOVE to shovel snow.  i don’t know why, i just do!  we had a good 5″ – 6″ or so already.  it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to shovel – 3 cars wide and 2 cars deep – & by the time i was done, the front walk already had over an inch on it again!!  it is supposed to snow even more overnight so i can’t wait to see what it looks like when i get up!

pezzy stayed inside with daddy and he snapped this pic of her with my big Tiger kitty – and no the child will still NOT keep her clothes on – i don’t know HOW she doesn’t freeze.  she also cut  fairly large portion of her hair off on one side so she will likely have short hair in the next pic you see of her….

i used my friend Melissa’s sketch from her tuesday morning challenge for my card today – i LOVE this sketch!  So many possibilities!

and my card:

i used one of my SEI juliette papers – this collection is SO gorgeous AND goes perfectly with two of the NEW distress ink colors – Spun Sugar and Pumice Stone – which i used to ink the edges.  the scallop die cut border is a MS punch and the scallop ribbon also came with my Juliette kit – it is a wonderful velvet ribbon.

my main image piece is actually made from polymer clay.  i rolled a piece out fairly thin, then stamped it with a regular rubber stamp.  next i lightly brushed it with gold mica powder so it highlighted the raised portions.

i made several pieces like this – i think they came out really cool!  i think some of my Tim stamps will make neat pieces!

now i am off to bed and you will be reading this in the morning while i am out shoveling more snow!
