today i DO have a project for ya!  i used today’s sketch on SCS to do my project for the current Think Ink challenge – make anything but a card using red, white n blue.  i decided to make a gift bag with a wonderful cake image from the Birthday Best set at Artful Inkables:

i just couldn’t bring myself to do the strict red, white n blue july 4th deal so i went with colors slightly off.  i do love the way they look together!  the white panels both have cuttlebug embossing on them to mtch the cake layers.  i colored the cake with copics and did the flames with some glaze pens.  i made my little embellies from polymer clay.  the upcoming issue of Through the Craft Room Door focuses on embellishments and i will be doing a video showing how to make these over on the magazine website!

I hope you join in on the Think Ink challenge and if you have not browsed through the stamp sets from Artful Inkables i urge you to do so – they are SO cute!  and SO versatile!  i just got the newest ones that will be released soon *swoon* WAY TOO CUTE!!!!!

i hope y’all all had a great start to your week!

My project today is ANOTHER square card – i NEVER do square BUT it seems i am running into a lot of square sketches lately!  that’s ok i got some square envelopes from papertrey ink awhile back so i am prepared!

this sketch is from SCS
Paperplay – no patterned paper
Daring Cardmakers – Die Cut Crazy

and here is my card:

I had this peacock die cut sitting on my table from a previous project that i didn’t use it on.  i thought how perfect it would be with the Peacock Pagentry background stamp from Artful Inkables!  aren’t those feathers GORGEOUS!

I stamped it twice  once on 2 squares with Antique Linen and once with Stormy Sky.

This gorgeous peacock is from the cuttlebug Persia combo set.  i added some Viva Decor Holographic Glitter Liner to the tail to spice it up!

and now we are off to run some errands!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

i’ve got a secret……….

lots of them actually!

but first let me tell you how my day started – i know many of you get such a kick out of Pezzy’s antics…well you will like this one!

i am awoken by pez at my bedside telling me she needs a new pull up.  the first thing i see when i open my eyes is the clock 3:15 AM.  the next thing i see is her holding a bucket full of stuff from my craft room. *SCREECH*  i jump out of bed and take her to her bed and ask her what she was doing.  s i put her in her bed i see ink and paint on her hands and legs!!!!!!  my worst fear has happened!  i said (real calmly) honey did you play with mommy’s markers?  she said yes but i put the lid back on……

i tell her not to move and race down two flights of stairs.  admittedly the damage could have been lots worse.  my chair was covered in paint and glitter and the floor was covered in flower soft.  then i see it…..on my work area is a completed card for one of my DTs and the bracelet i made at CHA.  The card was covered in dimensional pearls and flower soft – DRY – so she had been down there for awhile:

she chose the card that uses what is quite possibly the most expensive paper i have ever purchased…luckily i had already taken my pics so you will see this one again soon when it is time….AND NO she did not go back to sleep……but she did take a nap!

Susana has all of the new spellbinders IN STOCK NOW – YAY!!!  Be sure to check them out!  In fact she is getting new goodies in every day it seems – so much fun new stuff to see!  and for the icing on the cake you will NOT want to miss tomorrow’s post!!!!!!!

ok so i have been sitting on some VERY VERY exciting news and i can’t stand it any more!  if you are from the cricut board you already know a bit about it.  i find i am increasingly disappointed with the papercrafting magazines out there.  and from what i read over and over on the message boards i frequent i am not the only one!  well  on our way home from CHA my buddy suzanne and i were discussing this and we have decided to take matters into our own hands!

we are starting our own publication!!!!

suzanne said it best on her blog this morning:

-You will be able to purchase a subscription in pdf format only or a paper AND pdf subscription.  The cost will be $20 and under for a year (not firm on pricing yet) with special intro pricing.  The first issue will go live April 1st and there after be May/June, July/Aug, etc plus a special Winter Holiday edition.  So you have an option to receive it online and print it yourself OR you can get the glossy mag mailed to you AND have access to it as a pdf file (pricing will differ of course for both options).  And with both you have access to the special website!  (INTERNATIONAL Customers–pdf file subscription offered only right now)

-It will feature EVERYTHING!  Reader input is important to us!  We will have guests who specialize in different craft areas in one section (our main focus is paper crafting though), we will feature craft rooms, there will be techniques & tutorials galore (w/ videos to match them on the website to further the teaching experience), we will feature ALL stamp/digi companies, ALL craft products and tools, and lots of photos.  There will NOT be a bias on what we use—we want you to know about everything out there that there is to know!  We will feature all readers and their abilities!  We will not have a DT, because we want different people doing their thing for each edition, so there will be great variety but we will ask for submissions and ideas.  Cricut, Slice, Big Shot, Cuttlebug projects will be featured, Copics, Prismas and watercoloring will be featured and most of all it will be FUN!  And yeah, there will be contests too :o)

so what do you think??  the whole project is a huge undertaking and somewhat nerve wracking but i am very excited about it!

now onto my project for today!  our challenge over at Just Buggin is to use embossing on our cricut cuts!

Some of you may remember our adventures last summer when our two boys learned how to drive – of COURSE i had to scrap it!
i used the distressed wood cuttlebug embossing folder on the side tan piece above as well as the letters of my title:
i cut the letters using the Pooh Font cartridge (a REALLY REALLY good all purpose font cartridge with lots of options on it) and i went over the embossing lightly with a darker ink and the foam ink blending tool to make it stand out more.
now it’s YOUR turn!  come on over and check out the challenge as well as the other inspiration pieces by the DT girls!
and now i am going to go look for my sanity…..

exciting news & a SFYTT pixie christmas

happy hump day!

i want to start by taking a moment to recognize the fact that today is Veteran’s Day.  not only to thank all the folks who have or are risking their lives but to also thanks the families of those folks that stay here and “hold down the fort” while the soldiers are away and pick up the pieces when their sodlier comes home gravely injured.  i truly cannot imagine the strength it must take….

now onto an exciting tidbit of news – i have been asked to be a member of the Just Buggin’ cricut challenge design team!!!!   i have to say i am really excited about it!!  i have been using my cricut alot more lately and love the challenges samantha gives over there so it’s a perfect fit for me!  i love my cricut and hope you will join in if you have a cricut too!

blog tag

now for my project – which has no cricut on it – AH HAHHAHAH!  but it does have cuttlebugging and a gigantic bow:

isn’t she sweet!!  she is also a pollycraft digi – i printed off a whole page of them 🙂  so you will see more!  i don’t think i have EVER doen the white core embossed cardstock thing and am not into core’dinations papers HOWEVER i do like how this turned out – makes me think rustic which goes well with a pixie/sprite i think!  and i used one of the new UK only cuttlebug embossing folders i won from the Cuttlebug Spot – i am SO SO happy with those folders!!

i covered a few challenges with this one:

i started with my friend Jen’s Sketch For You To Try which is always fantastic!

In addition i was further inspired by these:
Practical Scrappers: White Core Cardstock – WONDERFUL samples posted
Papertake Weekly: Digi Sparkle – this is also the name of the sponsor for the prize this week!
Stamp Something: Recipe – 1 ribbon, 2 papers, 3 embellishments with a prize from Mo’s Digital Pencil (this one is a stretch but it IS what inspired how i made my card – i just used two ribbons for my bow without thinking…so i figure the red bow can be the 1 ribbon and the green bow, the button, & the pezabling can be my 3 embellies – whadda y’all think??)
SFYTT close up

i colored her with Copics and added LOTS of sparkle with spica pens.  i am especially pleased with her wings.  dontcha love it when the *real life* version turns out just like you pictured in your head?  i gave her wings some very light shading in the green.  then i painted them with Pink Highlights Creative Inspirations shimmer paint – LOVE this stuff!  finally i traced over the swirls with a gold spica pen.  in real life they ahve just the right hints of green and pink along with loads of shimmery goodness!

well pezzy the wonder tot has been up since 5 am, i have done 2 loads of laundry and need to get my dishes washed and grocery list made so i better scoot!

a few reminders before i go:

get your studio G challenge entries in for a chance to win a full size clear stamp set from hampton arts

be sure to enter my random drawing for a fun glitter prize on the snowflake post

have a great day!

episodes from the edge:

potty training day #what-the-h***-was-i-thinking….

episode 1: i am in the kitchen & pezzy is across the family room.  i see her suddenly jump up from what she is doing, rip of her training pants and run to the shelf where we have pull ups.  she grabs one and pulls it on as i am walking over to her and she says – i have to poop!!!  so apparently changing to a pull up to poop is easier than going in the potty.

episode 2: we are sitting on the couch.  suddenly she stands up.

Pez: mom, am i wearing undies or a pull up?
Mom: undies
Pez: EMERGENCY!!!!  **flies of couch and runs toward gate screaming potty potty someone get me outta here!!**

i have a fairly clean & simple card today:

i covered numerous challenges again – easy during holidays tee heeee!  they are:

Sketch For You To Try – i always love Jen’s sketches over at i{heart}2stamp and this one is no different!
Cuttlebug Spot #55 – Give Thanks – truly outstanding saples this week and a $20 gift certificate to Custom Crops up for grabs!
Scrapmaster’s Paradise Color Combo #22 – Chocolate Chip, Creamy Caramel, Sage Shadow, Dusty Durango – PERFECT thanksgiving colors!
Our Creative Corner – Vintage style embelishment or vintage inspired
GlueScissorsPaper #10 – Create a Thanksgiving card using a Nestie – i JUST discovered this challenge blog and they are offering a great prize up for grabs to anyone who participates in their challenges

Now for my card – i used a wonderful cuttlebug embossing folder/die combo set – i rarely use a cuttlebug die and i have to be honest – i only got this one because i like the embossing folder but it came as a set.  well i just have to say CB dies cut like a DREAM!  i am very pleased!!  and i like the vintage-y look to both the border and the embossing.  i did the stamping & inking with Brilliance Pearlescent Rust ink – SO shimmery and creamy smooth – excellent results with even the cheapest of acrylic stamps!  i finished off with just a couple Chocolate Glittered Skittles and was trying to figure out what else to add and decided i liked it just the way it is – not as fancy and intricate as some but still good i think!

i just got some gorgeous new rubber in and will be planning a release soon so keep an eye out for that!  there are four new Christmas designs here just barely in the nick of time!  they truly are works of art done for me by my mom and my brother!

have a great day and i am SO glad you took some time to visit me today!

today i have a christmas card for ya – the first of many!  this one combines the sketch from SCS this week and the color challenge for Sweet Dreamers:

i used 2 different cuttlebug techniques for the 2 background panels.  the red one is cuttlebug smoosh – the ink goes on the RECESSED areas.  to do this just ink your embossing folder with a brayer (does not hurt the folder) and then emboss as usual.  the green panel is the opposite – i cuttlebugged first and then inked the RAISED areas with a foam ink blending tool.

i colored the images (CTMH) with copics, added stickles and used polar white flower soft for the hair and beard.  works great!  i added a few peppermint skittles to finish it off!

SC250 & then some: Let It Snow

i am covering quite a bit here – cookies, a project and a tutorial for the Cake in a Box i did…

it is getting quite chilly around here!  i LOVE IT!!  sorry no project post yesterday but Pezzy The Wonder Tot and i DID finally ice the halloween sugar cookies we made.  a number of people asked to see a pic once they were done so here are a few for ya:

cookies small

can you guess which one was totally pezzy done…?

i will be giving a few of this set to our closest neighbors’ kids:

cookies set small

boy did she have fun!  She is QUITE pleased with herself!

cookies & pez small

she did actually help – i did the outlines on the cookies and once hardened she helped squeeze the icing and fill in the shapes.  took quite a bit of self control hee heee!  we got sprinkles ALL over the place so once we were done she was sure to scoop up as many as she could!

i DO have a project for PDD Friday though!

SC250 sketchAs i mentioned i LOVE the concept behind the Pile It On challenge blog and spent way too much time checking out all the links on their blog.  SO i started with the SCS sketch – which i loved!!!  i had SO many ideas for this and the gallery was outstanding for this one.

i coupled it with the challenge at the cuttlebug spot – monochromatic and the cute card challenge – use a charm (i am a little late for this one but oh well.)

i used an oldie but goodie for this one – alcohol ink on tin foil.  This is a super easy technique with alot of WOW factor!  I did a very detailed tutorial awhile back if you want to try it yourself!  the foil pieces were so dark i decided to mat them with pale blue cardstock and edged one piece with icicles using and MS edger punch and crystal stickles.  both large foil pieces have the snowflake embossing folder on them but then i realized the smaller squares fit some fancy squares so i used them too and i am really glad i did!  I usually go over the embossed portions with black staz on but in this case i chose white staz on and it really made the embossing pop!

SC250 close up

Rather than the usual stamping i decided to make a focal point using a sheer ribbon bow and some layered snowflake die cuts i did with my cricut.  i finished off the main piece with a cute lil’ snowflake skittle and added two more to each of the other squares.  The largest snowflake is cut from the same alcohol inked foil – works MARVELOUSLY in the cricut!!

i thought for sure i had a silver snowflake charm but didn’t.  however i did find this little *believe* charm.  i wanted it to dangle but it had a hole in each side so i dug around in my beading stash and made the little bead dangle hanging from the bottom.

Alcohol inks are an INCREDIBLY useful product to have around and nothing else can do their job.  They are formulated for slick surfaces – glass, metal, slick porcelain and can only be used on glossy cardstock.  ranger works the best.  I was a little intimadated by them at first but it turns out they are actually incredibly simple to use and very forgiving – the techniques are real free and loose which is nice.

I have received many questions about how i did the cake in the cake in a box project (which appeared in the cricut chirp too!!!).  i do not have a tutorial per se but i can tell you what i did.  using your cricut or nesties cut three consecutive circles 1/2″ different in size.  so if your smallest is 1″ in diameter next would be 1 1/2″ and the 2″.  for the bands i cut 1/2″ strips of paper and then estimated the length of each by wrapping it around the circle.  vary the width of your strip depending on how high your cake will be and whether or not you will punch the edge with an edger punch.  getting the layers to stick together was the trickiest part.  I made little thin strips of paper to use as tabs – 2 for the top layer and 4 for the other two layers.  i attached them to the insides of the layers extending below the bottom and then bent them bent them in flat with the bottom.  i attached this part to the layer beneath – make sense?  i recommend Scor-Tape for attaching everything as it is super super strong.  so i don’t know if that is helpful or not – i hope so!

have a GREAT day!
