Bliss layout

YAY the weekend!

anyone have anything exciting planned?  i will be heading to a sewing machine class – a freebie get to know your new machine type class.  i hope it is more than just the basic how to thread your machine – i want to know how to use all the crazy feet it came with!!!  while i am in that neck of the woods i am also going to hit the DC Big Flea – basically a big flea market at the Dulles Expo Center.  it’s been AGES since i got to stroll through some good flea market or antique shops.  not looking for anything just like to browse.  who knows what i might find or better yet what ideas i might come up with 🙂

Also on the agenda – start on pezza and i’s colossal winter cake with the cricut cake YIKES!  i want to see if 1. i can get better at using my cricut cake.  2. if i can make marshmallow fondant and it tastes good because fondant cakes are SO pretty and 3. can i make a cake with THREE FILLED tiers!  pezza has decided it will be blue and white with snowmen and snowflakes.  we have Luster Dust for shimmer, we have cans of colored spray mists – 2 different brands to try and we are ready to roll!!!!  ofc ourse it did cross my mind that after we do this we will have, well, THREE TIERS of cake – which i do not want to have to CONSUME.  so the goal is to have an open house help us eat cake  party next sunday and hop efolks show up!!!!  we will have one layer of french vanilla cake with peach filling, one layer of chocolate cake with white chocolate pudding filling and one layer of lemon cake with blueberry filling – again all pezza choices. YUM!

ok onto my project for today!  i have been trying to do more scrapbook layouts – i am WAY behind!  these are pictures from my mom’s house when Pezza and i went for a visit in October for her buddy Brett’s birthday:

and a close up of each page:

i think the pictures are really cute of pezza helping my mom with yard work using her own little wheelbarrow.  i had this scalloped page from My Mind’s Eye and LOVED the pattern and the colors so i built the rest of my page around that.  in almost everything i design i start with my patterned paper first and match my colors from there.  i cut a part out of the middle so the scallops did not cover the entire 12″ of the page.  the polka dot paper is Bo Bunny – i SO wish i had some in EVERY SINGLE color! t he pink border is a martha stewart punch.

I dug these stamps out of my Staging area – that’s a collection of stamps i have not used yet but need to – i am pretty sure they are from Great Impressions…aren’t they the cutest!?!?   The title piece and little flower clusters are done with my Cricut and are from the Bloom cartridge.  this cartridge is a LITE cartridge and has LOADS of adorable things on it.  i accented the largest flower cluster and title with cute tiny buttons.

The thing i really love about the cricut as opposed to manual die cutters (like sizzix) is that i can cut each image ANY SIZE i want.   so i have the three matching flower clusters but each a different size 🙂  this adorable little image is by Sarah Kay – i just love her stuff and they have always reminded me of  pezza.  i have been trying out Cryogen paper at the urging of my buddy suzanne and tried to capture the subtle sparkle it has but the camera just couldn’t get it.  i think i do like it though!  again i used buttons to accent the little flowers on the fence.  i just love that fence cut!

and now i am off to get my day started!  i will be stopping at two Michaels on my way to sewing class to check for clearance carts for a friend in australia!

have a great weekend!

Pezza and I make cookies…

hi all!!!

can you believe it?  tomorrow is christmas eve!  pezza is clearly going to spontaneously combust before present opening time gets here.  she has been extra rotten lately and we were discussing santa on wednesday while decorating cookies.  and she tells me she isn’t putting cookies out for santa.  i said WHY NOT?  she said well i don’t like santa.  i like the christmas snake instead.  (any long time readers remember easter – she hates bunnies and decided she would rather have an easter snake?)  so i said why don’t you want santa.  and she says well santa only brings presents to kids who have been good.  BUT the christmas snake brings presents to kids who have been bad so i will still be able to get presents.  clearly she is entirely to smart and cunning for a 4 year old and quite frankly i find her just a bit frightening….

i have to say i am having a truly fabulous Christmas so far!  when hubby and i were first making out our christmas budget and gifting list i thought we should get some stuff from hickory farms for people.  well he said no – he thinks it’s a lame gift.  i said are you nuts?  i ALWAYS wish I would get a big goodie box from hickory farms!  so what do i get – a big box from Hickory Farms courtesy of my dad and step mom – WOOHOO!!!  THEN i get another box from Swiss Colony – HUGE box full of Petit Fours from my brother – YUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!  not only that but i got a nice fat gift certificate to my fave fabric store EVER – WebFabrics from my mom to go with the new Bernina hubby got me!  i tell ya i am SOME happy!

ANYWAY i thought i would show you some of our cookies.  i LOVE to bake but i ESPECIALLY love to make Christmas cookies, in particular iced sugar cookies.  this year we made 2 dozen cranberry oatmeal bars, 6 dozen eggnog snickerdoodles, 2 dozen stained glass cookies (uses red & green candied cherries so they look like stained glass), 3 dozen raspberry meringue cookies, and about 7 dozen or so sugar cookies.  i make goodie bags for everyone so a bag went in each of the boxes for my family and then we go around and make deliveries – neighbors, the ladies at the fabric store (WebFabrics), my poor mail lady, etc.

here is a sampling of the sugar cookies all done up:

i use the Ideal Sugar Cookie recipe from Martha Stewart for my dough – it is the BEST i have found because it doesn’t lose it’s shape when baking.  what you cut is what you get.  For icing i use Royal Icing as opposed to cake icing because i have more control, it looks more professional and it DRIES so cookies can be stacked!  i use Wilton Meringue Powder which has the recipe right on it and color it with GEL food coloring.  then i put it into ziplock baggies fitted with icing tips and ice away!  i did not do Cricut Cake cookies because 1. i wanted to do them fast and 2. i have tons of perfect little christmas cookie cutters.  but if i wanted shapes that were more specialty then of course i have the Cricut to cut anything my pezza can dream up during other times of the year!

of course pezza wanted to *help* – i use that term loosely.  Toward the end i realized i had way too much yellow icing and plenty of cookies so i set up pezza with her own set of cookies to decorate unencumbered by momma:

needless to say she was QUITE pleased with herself!

here is her finished plate – toward the end she asked me to do the icing so she could just do the sprinkles…then he degenerated into her just eating fist-fulls of sprinkles…good times!

i may or may not get any posts up between now and new years so in case i don’t i would just like to thank each and every one of you who take time out of your day to visit me here and i hope you all have an AMAZING christmas!!!!

drumroll puhleaze!

I stamped the image with memento ink and colored her with copics.

i love the look and feel of these stamps – Carmen is a very talented and versatile artist.  i am really enjoying her images!

craft room clean up

hi all!

wow i have never been SO neglectful of my blog before!  let me just say i THOROUGHLY enjoyed the Splitcoast get together this weekend!!  what a great group and such incredible goodies from the swap!  some truly fabby talent!  thank you girls for a fun day!

ok so i told you i was cleaning up and cleaning out in my craft room (as well as many other areas of the house).  i have had a number of people ask for finished pics so i have a quickie slide show for ya – it is nothing spectacular.  pretty much a bunch of tables and some cheap plastic storage tubs and drawers from walmart and target.  but i do LOVE it in my room!

my table and pezza’s table are only a couple feet apart so that’s nice for both of us.  the things i have on the wall holding all my bottles (alcohol inks, viva pens, stickles, etc) are actually spice racks from target – they work perfectly!  in front of my work table is a tall deep shelf unit that hold all of my bins of stamps and the bottom shelf holds all of my 12×12 & patterned papers.  i like this set up better than my old one because my cricut and sewing machine are in two different areas now AND i can now watch tv from my main work desk!

maybe one day i will have one of those super set ups like you see in magazines!  but it will definitely NOT be anytime in the near future!  so for now i am happy with what i’ve got!  certainly more than anything i had dreamed of years ago!

i hope your week has been off to a great start!!!
