it’s twisted thursday time at the Outlawz!

hi everyone!

wow i have been AWFUL about blogging on a frequent basis like i used to BUT i have also been busier than usual at home with day to day home life.  crossing my fingers that will improve once pezza is back in preschool again.  you know i have been reading all the back to school posts on facebook and the folks who are so sad to see their kids going back to school and they will miss them…apparently their kids are not completely insane like mine is!  me?  i need the break.  SHE needs the break AND the change of scenery…and hubby and i will pray she keeps her teeth to herself this year.  we have been attending a weekly therapy playgroup this summer that focuses on children learning how to behave with one another.  of course she has been adorable and perfect in there and the therapists think i’m nuts.  *sigh*

now onto my project for the Twisted Thursday challenge over on The Outlawz Challenge site.

This weeks challenge is Anything Goes…with a optional twist.
The twist is to use one of the digi stamps that our very own Anne has drawn just for this challenge.  Thank you Anne!!  You can find these digis on the challenge thread – just click the link above in purple!

If you are new to our challenges, let us give you a quick explanation: We were originally POM which was short for Primsa’s and Other Mediums. Other Mediums can be anything from dye inks, distress inks, chalks, heat embossing, water colored pencils, crayons, etc. Basically anything except for alcohol ink markers such as Copics and Promarkers. Prisma’s can be ANY colored pencil, it doesn’t have to be the Prisma color brand. With the name change to Twisted Thursday, we added a twist to the challenge! You are allowed to have 50 percent alcohol inks on your images!! We are hoping this will make the challenge a little bit easier for you! Have fun! the prizes are fabulous so be sure to enter!

i used Anne’s Corner Leaves image along with my Cricut Thanksgiving cartridge:

i colored the leaves with colored pencils and then cut them out.  the leaves were fun to do – i sort of used them as a study and tried a couple different techniques and several different color combinations.

i have been working in overdrive on projects for the next issue of Through the Craft Room Door – we will be focusing on halloween and fall in general.  i am excited about the projects we will be featuring!  here is a little hint for ya – next time you are in target you will want to pick up a few of these – specifically the clear, orange, green and/or red:

and you may want to get a matching hand towel while you’re at it!  and now i am off to finish things up – the new issue will be hitting inboxes soon so if you are not already a subscriber now is the time!  you can catch this fun issue as well as our bonus holiday issue due out in mid october!

now off to dive into my to-do list!

are crocheted embellies still in…???

hi everyone!

i have been one heckuva busy girl!  and i have ENTIRELY to many hobbies/interests/{obsessions} for one person.  i am clearly going to need to live to be about 150+ to cover all i want to cover and explore!  i am HAPPY to report we had a break in the oppressive heat and pez has been able to play outside the last few days – she NEEDS the outdoor activity to burn off energy!

have you checked out the latest submission calls for Through the Craft Room Door?  do you have a fun holiday project we can include in our special holiday bonus issue?  do you like to play with card sketches?  check out our submissions page and send us some stuff!!!!!

my card today is all about the embellie.  i made it a year ago (maybe more) and love it and wanted to use it so i designed the card around it instead of saving the embellie selecting until last!

i am entering it in the following challenges:

Mojo Monday – sketch
AI Factory – Anything Goes
Catch the Bug – Anything Goes
Your Next Stamp – Beautiful Borders
Fun with Shapes – twine

i love the design AND the colors of the little crocheted piece.  i got this pattern from one of my ALL time favorite crochet embellishment books – Beyond the Square: Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman.  i place it on a felt piece cut with a spellbinders nestie and then finished off with a glittered skittle in the center.  the border punch is from EK Success.  the three glittering squares are my own pezabling which you can order HERE.  while you are on my website be sure to look around – i am clearing everything out and all that i have left is 40% off – there are some really good deals on there!

for those that enjoyed my dollhouse posts i used to put up  here – be sure to go check out my latest post on Dotted Daisy Designs – we are nearing the completion of the exterior!  here’s a pic of my littlest helper while i was working yesterday:

this is Bubba Cat (formerly Bandit) the little kitten hubby and i fell in love with when we were fostering him for a few days.  i swear he is such a little dream baby!  We also have two new foster kittens until Sunday.  another Maine coon the color of our cat fluffy and a tuxedo cat.  i will have to get some pics later today!

i hope you all have a great weekend planned!

you can’t do THIS with Copics!

hi everyone!

while you are reading this i will be at the Cancer Center having surgery but don’t freak out!  i was diagnosed recently with skin cancer however if you have to have cancer, skin cancer is the least serious and especially the kind i have.  so i will be getting it removed today.  fun stuff NOT.  i think the worst part is that it is only local anesthesia and i SO don’t do well with ANY sort of anything having to do with injuries and such.  just the biopsy was enough to make me queasy and swoony.  it’s all in my head 😛  but then we will be off for a weekend in our new camper this weekend so i am looking forward to that!

in case you missed them i wanted to call your attention to several posts with giveaways:

Cricut Expression 2 Anniversary Edition – For every $5 you donate to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue your name will be entered in the drawing!  this wonderful organization rescues animals ALL OVER the US and they are the ones we got our adorable kittens we are fostering.

Make It Crafty and SCACD are giving away prizes to FIVE commenters on the MiC post – be sure to get your comments in!

TTCRD Magazine Challenge – $10 gift certificate to Michelle Perkett digi stamps for one lucky winner in the current challenge – fairytale theme.  This challenge ends on the 14th!

The Outlawz POM challenge – Make a bag & tag set – today is the last day for this challenge – a new one starts tomorrow.  Th eprize for this challenge is really good – $50 gift certificate to Oozak AND a $25 gift certificate to SCACD!

susana and i were talking and she mentioned that she thought the perfume bottles in the recent vault release would look amazing colored on black.  i took her up on her idea and boy was she right!

I colored this with Lyra Polycolor pencils on black cardstock.  The trick is to stamp with white, shade with white and then add your color.  this works with any brand of pencil but i noticed the polycolors were more vibrant – probably because they are oil based not wax.

I love the way the black mats add to the drama of the bag.  my great big flower is made by me too!  it is super easy!  first i picked out a cool ribbon – this particular one was sheer and gathered into tufts plus it had pearls too.  next I took some Wonder Tape by Ranger in the full sheet and i cut out a circle the size i wanted my flower to be.  it does not have to be a perfect circle.  Peel off one side of the backing to expose the stickiness.  Press the end of your ribbon down in the center and then just wind it around in a circle, sticking it down as you go. DONE!  that easy!  now when you’re ready to use it just peel the backing off of the other side (not covered by ribbon) and stick it on!  way cool or what.  even better – susana has another option for you.  you can get pre-cut sticky circles too!  Glubers from Cosmo Cricket.  so have fun!

POM Russian Style

hi all!

where oh where have the days gone?  i just can’t seem to kick whatever i am sick with and i am having a rough time!  i DO NOT like being below my usual productivity level!  and of course Pezza insanity level has NOT diminished.  As i briefly mentioned in my last post – we were away on a cruise for a week – for those interested you can check out pics at the end of this post!

We are smack in the middle of the current POM challenge on the Outlawz and it is anything goes so there is no excuse not to join in!!!  you have a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Oozak PLUS 3 free digis from Anne’s Digis – that is one heckuva priza package!!!  My project features one of my lessons from my Colored Pencil 2 class:

it mimics the amazing russian Zhostovo painting style – bright colors on black or dark colored lacquer – LOVE that style so much!!! i am thinking i should do it more often!  I consider this Clean and Simple (even though it is not according to a debate thread on SCS).

i hope you will all come enter some cards or projects over on The Outlawz – it is a really friendly bunch of folks and the prizes are always top notch!

The cruise was on Royal Carribbean – Majesty of the Seas.  The vacation time was wonderful, a cruise as a vacation is fantastic, spending time with my family and getting to know them was priceless.  the best part was the free childcare/kid activity set up so me and kevin got some actual down time and it was far more fun for her than what we wanted to do.  they even came and got her 45 minutes into dinner time so we could enjoy a leisurely meal with everyone and she wasn’t bored to tears.  my only real complaint was the lack of coffee or any type  of snack in the morning – i am an early riser and i could not even get a cup of coffee until after 6am.

here i am with our ship in the background

We drove to Miami – yes drove – pezza is fabulous for road trips.  we got to miami and headed to my aunt’s house for a pre-cruise gathering. i had never met my aunt & uncle and only met 2 of the 3 cousins that were there once before.  the third cousin and i saw each other often as kids.  my aunt had loads of Cuban food – YUM!  and kevin got to try Cuban coffee – so so much better than starbucks type espresso.  my fabulous aunt took me to the Cuban market (the size of a regular grocery store) and loaded me up with all sorts of Cuban goodies to take home with us.  here are a few pics:

we all had dinner together each night

Pezza loved all of the swimming - this is Coco Cay Beach

She got to pet a sea star...

and a dolphin too - we want to go back to Atlantis Resort. The dolphins there were rescued after Hurricane Katrina - amazing story.

Trevor & his best buddy Jack came with us too - this is trev at my Aunt's post-cruise.

ok i am off to go to bed early again – i am really trying to kick this crud i have making me sick!  have a great 4th everyone!!!

TTCRD challenge!

hello all!

i hope your week has been going well!!!  we have been enjoying lots of summertime fun!  i am trying to teach pezza how to swim but unfortunately i waited a bit too long and she has developed a bit of a fear of water.

have you been checking the new victoria case images on the DT blogs?

today i have a little peek at something i made for the TTCRD challenge – it turned into a whole magazine project but here is a look at the Glitterbabe image i used:

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM strawberry limeaid……colored with colored pencils of course!

ok quick post as i am very behind!

have a great weekend!

POM at The Outlawz

hi everyone!

i am not sure how it can POSSIBLY be thursday – where on earth did my week go – i seriously feel like yesterday was the weekend…probably in part because i feel a bit like the walking dead lately.  i have been totally unable to fall asleep at night for a week – so i lay there awake wishing i could sleep instead BLECH!  might be time for a little tylenol PM i think!  the worst part – I STILL HAVE NOT BEGUN ON MY DOLLHOUSE!!!!  but perhaps today is the day…Pezza and I did pick up some expired wallpaper sample books while getting our paint and we went through them this morning – SUH-WEEEET stuff.  i LOVE wallpaper but i never really want it on my WALL.  we tore out LOADS of ones we like – some will go in the dollhouse but most will be showing up on future paper crafts and decoupage projects!

i HAVE been playing with the kittens of course and wow are they EVERYWHERE.  cutest pics EVER at the end of this post!

TTCRD Challenge – have you entered a project yet?  you could win a gift certificate to Crop Stop for your paper piecing project!  and while you are there – browse the TTCRD site too!

SCACD – today is usually my TIOT posting day but I will be posting tomorrow along with a few of my DT sisters to show you something FABULOUS Susana came up with!  In the meantime head over to the SCACD blog and check out the adorable Make It Crafty stamps she just got in – can’t wait to color a few of them up!  She also has a few new Epiphany items in.

CMC – want to learn to take your colored pencil coloring to new heights?  sticking with pencils because Copics are SO expensive?  head over to CMC and check out my Colored Pencil Classes – Class 1 and Class 2!  I also teach several Cricut Classes there too!  Coming soon – a card making/card theory class i know you guys will LOVE!

My card for today is for the POM (Prisma & Other Mediums) Challenge on The Outlawz.  It is Summer Party time at the Outlawz so there are some great prizes up for grabs – the prize for POM – one of my colored pencil classes FREE!

I am also entering it in the following challenges:

Pile It On – Summer Heaven
Papertake Weekly – Anything Goes
Make It Monday – Anything Goes

i LOVE these bright colors!  i know the yellow is Bo Bunny but i am not sure about the blue…and NO my die cut is NOT Cricut (gasp).  i was recently sent a Sizzix eClips to review for Craft Critique and this little flower was my first cut.  How does it rate?  How is it compared to Cricut?  for that you will just have to wait for my review on Craft Critique.  if you do not already subscribe you should – i have been reading it for years and it is a wealth of straight forward crafty information!

My main image is Dressy Marci from Lala Land Crafts.  I just love their designs!  She is colored with colored pencils – nope not copics.

I used Derwent Coloursoft pencils and the Derwent blender pencil (no gamsol or other solvent).  Here’s one of the great things about colored pencil – i am working in completing my color collection of these a little at a time.  so I did not have a color that matched my blue paper.  no problem – i just layered two pencils so it matched perfectly.  So what’s different about these compared to the Prismas?

The leads are much softer than Prismas which makes them more blend-y.  i LOVEEEEEEE them so much!

and now of course – i have to include kitten cuteness:

Pezza's fave - Gingersnap

The 2 boys - Berlioz is SERIOUSLY larger than the other 2 kittens. Oliver is my baby. All he ever wants is for me to hold & cuddle him.

Berlioz sleeps ALOT. He fell asleep in pezza's lap.

yes, his mouth is totally hanging open.

i turn around and see this. she says MOM i am not READING to him. i am teaching him GEOGRAPHY. oh...excuse me.

be sure to tune in tomorrow to see what cool stuff i have been doing for SCACD!

outlawz time!

hi everyone!

i hope you’re having a good weekend!  we don’t have too much going on around here – all i really want to do is color with my pencils – i am SO in love with me new polycolor and coloursoft pencils – they ROCK!  i just may have to sell my Copics!  not sure why i ever switched in the first place!

my post today is for the Thursday POM (Prisma & Other Mediums) challenge on Outlawz – *Buttons & Bows*

In addition it is also for the following challenges:

Papertake Weekly – sketch (though i forgot a panel YIKES!)

I got this great K&Co paper pad awhile back that is all printed on Kraft so it was perfect for this image.  i stacked my buttons on top of my bow.  my sentiment is a little studio g stamp OF COURSE!

One of the lessons in Colored Pencils 2 Class is coloring on cardstock other than white so here is the image from the Kraft lesson.  The image itself is a FREE digi from one of the DT girls on the Outlawz site – you wouldn’t believe the talent over there!  this one is by Anne Fenton.  i just love how it turned out on the Kraft!

And there’s another reason you need to head over to The Outlawz – they are having a Summer Bash and the prizes are fantastic!
