blog moving news

hi all!

yep it’s time for a change – and a big one.  i have been on wordpress for nearly 2 years and never been overly happy with it, especially once blogger began making so many great changes to become more functional.  so i am finally taking the leap BACK to my old blog on blogger.  It has a fresh new look designed by me of course.  it will also be a little different content-wise – some of you may like it and others may not.  i began my blog as a way to communicate info about the Studio G stamps i carried to the folks who were ordering.  somehow along the way i created an online store, closed it down and then became a designer/promoter for a number of different products and companies.  all of this has been a fantastic journey but I found lately that i just wasn’t happy with it anymore.  i thought about quitting altogether – i rarely have any comments so i really don’t know if i have any readers left or if anyone is interested in what i do anymore.  but mainly my creative outlet was beginning to feel more like work.  i did not like that.  i love the companies and products but i don’t want rules and deadlines. i also don’t want to be limited to papercrafts – i do so much more and have so many interests. i  also want freedom on my blog – freedom to post what i want, when i want and say what i want.  now i am not referring to products – i have always been honest about those.  but i want to be able to post my thoughts and opinions on life in general rather than being a promotion machine.

don’t worry – you will still know what i think about products too!  if i love it you’ll know it and i may even give links to get it but let’s face it – we all know how to use google right?  if i hate something you will know that too!

i will continue to write for Craft Critique because i love the variety and honesty there.  i will also continue to work on the magazine Through the Craft Room Door and will hopefully have more time to devote to that as well.  i will still be doing digital design for folks and i will be teaching new classes over on Color Me Creative.  The next class i have planned is going to be extremely fun – all about Mixed Media!  i have some really amazing things planned for that one so whether you have dabbled in it or not – you will love the class!

IF YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS A POST be sure to head over to blogger and get on the email list if you are not already on it!

TTCRD submission call!

hi all!

happy monday!  i know – an oxymoron right?  did you do anything fun this weekend?  we took our trailer and headed to williamsburg.  for those of you not from this area williamsburg was the capital of virginia back in the 1700s. around the 1930s a huge restoration project backed my millions of dollars from john d rockefeller jr was begun to restore the colonial town center the way it was in the 1700s.  some of the buildings are original but most are rebuilt replicas of the originals.  the colonial town is filled with workers dressed in period costume demonstrating the trades people worked at during the 1700s.  i find all of this fascinating as i am absolutely obssessed with old architecture and ways of life.

visiting williamsburg is interesting for me because it is so very different from what i am used to.  i grew up in south louisiana where the french and especially the spanish influence resulted in plantations and buildings steeped in flamboyance and decorative features.  i find the architecture here in the north to be much more utilitarian and sparse.  i also find it frustrating that so much of the town is off limits to see – many of the buildings are private residences and even the ones that are open have only a few rooms on the lower level open for viewing.  the BIGGEST disappointment though was that the few places i REALLY wanted to tour and to show pezza were closed on saturdays WHAT!?!??!  seems like saturday would be the heaviest visited……
here are a few pics for ya:

notice the the clean basic lines of the trim work and lack of any type of crown molding.  buildings in the south tend to have decorative trim and molding in the extreme!

again – very sparse, basic furnishings, no window coverings or rugs.

having hot chocolate during the coffeehouse tour – such a big girl – very well behaved all day.

even the outsides of the building are plain – no porches, balconies, ornate ironwork 🙂

trying to learn an old-time game…

our one day pass is good for the rest of the year so i am hoping to go back and see the xmas decor and possibly see the buildings we missed this time around.

some digi re-dos!

hi all!

i am so sorry my blogging has become so sparse but as you longtime readers know i had to take pezza out of school last march and she has been home with me every day since – which does not leave me with nearly as much time as i would like to get stuff done BUT i also have so many other things going on with so many different fronts!  which is all good of course!  not to mention i have really been trying to bring a bit more balance into my life between work and family time.  when you work from home it is very hard to “leave work and go home”!  so what all have i been up to?  if you have not checked out the dollhouse blog  Dotted Daisy – you should!  exterior is done and ready for shingles and then it is on to the interior!  I have also begun a room box for a contest at a local dollhouse shop.

the next issue of Through the Craft Room Door will be hitting inboxes soon filled with fun stuff like this for halloween and fall in general:

full project pics and instructions ONLY in the magazine – if you don’t subscribe now is the time!

isn’t she a cutie? t he paper is from the 6×6 pad – my mind’s eye lime twist life of the party.  i crocheted the flowers from the book crochet embellishments by jean leinhauser – best one ever!  of course the centers are glittered skittles.

she is colored with polycolor colored pencils.  here’s a little teaser of the new stamps coming out at SCACD:

i hope you all have a fun day today!

it’s all about cricut today! winner time!

hi all!

i hope you all had a fabby weekend!  we went off camping again in the new trailer – LOVE that thing!  it is such a dream!  i’ll put a few pics at the bottom.  we headed south this time to Luray Caverns – only about 1.5 hours away.  this time we stayed in an actual RV park as opposed to a campground and boy was it a different experience.  in some ways better and some ways not.  for one, it was not like “camping” at all.  so if it is the wilderness aspect i am wanting, an RV park may not be the best place.  on the other hand it sure was nice in a staying at a motel kind of way.  so if my main reason for travel is to go visit something or somewhere then an RV park is probably best.  this one was called Country Waye and it had EASY pull through sites with full hookups, a grass area, a little playground and a nice pool.  we could see the playground from our site so pezza got to play whenever and she swam twice too – she LOVED it.  it was also very neighborhood-ish – we met other people and she played with all the other kids which is not usually how camping works.  most of the time camping folks keep to themselves.

we headed over to Luray Caverns to tour the cavern and check out the carriage and super old car museum.  like cars that look like buggies kind of cars.  i think the most recent thing they have in there is 1935.  the older ones just fascinate me!  of course the cavern took my breath away.  i LOVE CAVES.  the boys and i did a lot of caving in Missouri when they were kids.

enough chit chatting – let’s get on with it!

The Outlawz – LOADS of fantastic challenges WITH PRIZES over on the Outlawz site – make sure you go over and check it out!

Remember the fundraising drive I have been having for the Lost Dog & Cat Foundation?  you know the one with the Expression 2 giveaway?  well it’s time to pick a winner!  we had a total of $655 donated – you guys are amazing!  i thank you with all my heart for donating to this cause as it is so important to me.

and now for the winner!!!! ready…….

Candy B!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now i have no way of getting ahold of her because the site does not allow me to email donors.  so if you think you know her be sure to tell her to come get in touch with me so i can send her expression 2!!!

My project today uses my Cricut Imagine and ONLY the Imagine for everything except the card base and ribbon tabs.

This card was done using the Lori’s Garden cartridge.  i had wanted it for SO long and then when I finally got it i never got a chance to use it.  so when i got the Mojo Monday sketch in my email i thought – that’s it.  i am going to go down and use Lori’s Garden and this sketch.  i am also submitting it for the following challenges:

Make It Monday – Anything Goes
Paperplay – In the Garden
Our Creative Corner – Red & Aqua

All of my layers are done using Lori’s Garden and then edged with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.  My flower layers are popped up on foam tape for some added dimension.  i love the perfect coordination of all my pieces and all i had to do is choose them all at once and then cut once.  SO easy.  i DO need to do a little calibration on it though so my border and cut line are lined up better.  that is probably the only thing i don’t like about the imagine – the need to re-calibrate all the time.

and now as promised – a few pics of our weekend trip:

our site and trailer.

a white cave formation

yep that is solid rock people!

pezza & daddy

Pezza & mommy

see the bright red mark on the side of my nose – that is the cancer surgery scar.  i thought it was going to be less noticeable and maybe it will after a little time passes but as of now – it looks like a frankenstein scar complete with the little dots down each side from the stitches UGH!

i am happy to say Pezza was amazed at the inside of the caverns.  our next trip will be back to our fave campsite at Catoctin Furnace and MAYBE this time i will get to actually visit the old furnace ruins!

Have a great evening everyone!

POM: gift card holder challenge!

hi all!

well i made it through surgery, though it was a bit rougher than i expected.  i only had local anesthesia and i can get grossed out so easily.  i fainted once when one of the boys lost a tooth.  so i kept nearly passing out/low blood sugar/ plummeting blood pressure – SO much fun.  ended up with 8 stitches and an incision far longer than i had any idea it would be.  however, the doc and nurses were AWESOME!  the doc even called me at home last night to check on me and his cell phone number was on the aftercare paperwork for emergencies.  i even managed to change my bandage myself without passing out this morning.  however i am working on one nice black eye and it itches something awful.  but if i rub it at all it hurts.  BUT i am cancer free, truly not a big deal.  i am just a big wuss!

several newsies to cover before getting into project goodness:

Cricut E2 giveaway/fundraiser – please help me spread the word so i can reach my fundraising goal for Lost Dog & Cat Rescue!

I am trying to narrow down which dollhouse I will be building for a charity auction on the Dotted Daisy blog – i have gotten it down to TWO choices from Real Good Toys – turns out they sponsor charity stuff and offered to become involved with my efforts YAY!!!!  so head over to Dotted Daisy after you are done here and cast your vote!

Today a new POM challenge kicks off on The Outlawz – Gift Card Holders.  The prizes up for grabs are REALLY good – $50 gift certificate to Oozak PLUS a $25 gift certificate to SCACD – how can you pass that up?!?!?!?

i don’t make these nearly enough.  here is mine:

please excuse the xmas gift card – it was the only one i had on hand 😛  I cut the pieces using the Fabulous Finds Cricut Cartridge – an oldie but definitely a MUST HAVE.  I cut the tab file/holder at 4″ with the window.  then i cut a piece from some plastic packaging i had and put it in the window cut out.  Next I cut out the insert piece and attached the gift card to the back with a couple mini glue dots.  Next i cut out the bookplate/tag design.  i cut the insert piece from my PTI cardstock and then stamped and colored (Polycolor pencils).  The cherry on top is a dab of Liquid Pearls.  I used double sided paper for this so my project would look good from all sides.  A couple of glittered skittles make excellent little accents on the bookplate.

Head over to Dotted Daisy to vote for a house and then show us your fave gift card holder design on The Outlawz!
