playin’ with the cricut imagine!

hi all!!!

i hope you all had a WONDERFUL thanksgiving weekend!  i know we did!  i always make the full dinner whether we have anyone else coming or not and it was dee-LISH!  i did my turkey very differently this year and it was the best EVER – first soaked it in brine all night, then layered a ton of celery, onions and carrots under it, filled the cavity with sliced oranges and laid a few pieces of bacon over it while baking – oh man was it fall over good.  and the vegies and some broth are stored away in the freezer for chicken noodle soup in the future.

of COURSE i ventured out for some black friday shopping hysteria – which i LOVE.  i absolutely love the insanity.  got some great deals on some stuff including three new christmas trees.  one large one for the family, one large one JUST for momma and one smaller one JUST for pezza.  for hers i got the most god awful gawdy pezza perfect ornaments i have ever seen and she LOVES it!  for mine i am doing it in silver and purple and i have it almost done.  i am 95% done with my christmas shopping for this year!

we also did some major rearranging in the basement to make room for a play area for pezza – she likes that!

i took three days off completely from crafting/working.  then yesterday i got back to work.  i got several new cricut cartridges i had ordered awhile back including two for my Imagine AND a pack new Imagine mats cuz the one that came with it sucked so i thought i would break it out and start getting to know it better.

i learned alot of new things along the way about how to do things with the imagine.  how to set my paper size, quick and easy ways to make more than one of a cut, better utilize my paper…just basics for me still.  i got a pack of 12×12 white paper from stampin up but i don’t think i like it.  it is not the same as all their other papers – it is sort of slick.  the first thing i noticed while playing around is that i go way overboard using the fabulous pattern choices on the Imagine cartridges.  i never use patterned paper for my diecuts normally but all the sudden i was making every single layer using a different pattern – it does not work out all that well for the most part…so i made one incredibly ugly xmas card which i will not be showing here.

next i made a second one which turned out better:

one thing i really like about using the Imagine – i can use it to cut nearly ALL of my pieces.  on this card the base and the snowflake border are the only colored cardstock i used.  the rest was all done on the Imagine.  i cut my ornament die cut using the winter Frolic regular cartridge along with the Mr. Frosty Imagine cartridge.  then i took out Winter Frolic and put in George and cut my rectangles using the same pattern choices from mr. frosty as i used on my ornament.  then i stick ONE piece of paper in and cut it all at once – much quicker!  now the red striped piece was wider than i needed so i did have to cut that one down.

something i have noticed too – my Imagine cuts WAY WAY better than my E ever has.  it seems to cut cleaner and smoother with rough edges or anything like i can sometimes get with my E no matter how new my blade is.  the overall mechanism just seems to work alot better….now if i could just make my update work so it recognizes all of my newer cartridges i would be in business!  might work on that later today…

well i am off to do baths and get pezza back to school today!  she has missed her friends!

have a fantastic day!!!
