TIO…S? a switcheroo x 2

hi all!

how’s your weekend???  we are having a dreary rainy day here in VA which i hope means we will get back to that gorgeous cool fall weather we were having.  the last few days were hideously hot & humid BLECH!  need some good go-outside-and-get-some-energy-out weather!

my week is insanely full this week.  pez starts gymnastics, i am going to spend the afternoon with my CTMH girl and good friend cori to discuss the possibility of a Through the Craft Room Door retreat in spring (mark your calendars girls – it will be good!!!), then dinner with suzanne (which i always look forward too), and the very real possibility of a Color Me Creative road trip with suzanne up to Delaware for copic classes and to see our buddy anary (who just introduced the MOST adorable line of Gilli stamps!).

after a well deserved vacation susana will have the store cart back up and running today at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design and she is kicking things off with some great blog candy!! and you know what that means – a new release is right around the corner and oh is it a good one!!  so instead of doin Try It Out Tuesday (TIOT) we have done a Try It Out Sunday!  you can see the rest of the awesome work over on the SCACD blog!

Our challenge this week was to use a NON fall/holiday stamp in a fall/holiday card – i always love this because it reminds me to look at my stamps with a more open mind!

i decided to use Sweet Slumbers from the recent Animapeeps release – does she look cozy or what??? i started off by making my own background paper with a stamp in another line Susana recently added to the store called Local King Rubber – there are some really awesome designs to choose from! I used an oldie but goodie technique for my background of falling leaves. Marvy Markers! these were the first markers i ever bought and they are WONDERFUL for coloring directly on your stamps. However, there is a bit of a twist here – did you know if you stamp onto glossy paper it makes the image pop right out at you??? if you don’t have the marvys or the glossy paper you can grab them right below the local king rubber stamps on the SCACD site!  I did the edges with my Zutter distress it all – thing still scares me a little bit…trying to love it….

My little embellishment was made using GORGEOUS felt from Felt On the Fly and my spellbinders for cutting.  i took some metallic gold thred, sewed on the PTI yellow button and then stitched around it to hold the bottom two pieces more securely (AND it looks cute) – so simple!  i used a yellow Viva Decor Gloss Gel Pen for the gorgeous bright yellow dots.

i stamped my image with memento tuxedo black and then i gave it a wash of color using Creative Inspirations shimmering paints in olive green and burnt sienna. you can easily control the intensity and transparency of color with how much water you use when painting them on BUT it does NOT lessen the amount of shimmer you get! next i added in my shadows with a prisma colored pencil to give some depth and dimension to the image. This also does not lessen the shimmer so it is an easy coloring technique to use.

Welcome home susana – now y’all can head on over to the store and get some shopping done!
