SC346: Home Sweet Home

hi all!

any fun plans for the weekend?  i will be taking it off from work and enjoying some family time :)  quick post for you before i take off though!
have you had a chance to check out the amazing rubber stamps by Make It Crafty that are available at SCACD?  these are SO much fun!  today’s card uses Fairy Tree House:

the sketch is the current SCS sketch challenge.  I made the large background paper using a technique in a recent issue of Technique Junkies called Faux Washi paper.  the smaller flowered strip comes from a fantastic 6×6 bo bunny paper pad – Garden Girl.  **by the way, if you have not browsed SCACD’s 6×6 paper pad section recently i urge you to go check it out – AMAZING new papers are in including many for the holidays!**

i colored this amazing image with my colored pencils.  the flower embellie is done using First Impression molds and Viva Decor Crystal Gel.  i brushed on some copper perfect pearls powder to tie it in even better. i finished the card off with some dots of Turquoise Viva Decor Pearl Pen.

i hope you all have a great weekend!!!
hugs

TIOT:some sass for you today!

hello all!

So sorry for being so quiet lately – i really do have SO much to share with you!  i was on a cruise last week to the bahamas!  yep – so so much fun.  then i came back to the power cord for my laptop no longer working.  ordered a new one, paid for expedited shipping, got it yesterday – they sent the wrong one *SCREECH*  so i STILL have no access to my computer and EVERYTHING i need to do my many jobs.  on top of that i came home super sick and am still feeling pretty awful.  needless to say i am having an incredibly difficult time getting back into the swing of things!

i just love the most recent release from SCACD and wanted to share another one with you today – this is Femme Fatale from the Retro group:
I paired her with papers from the Kaisercraft English Rose paper pad.

She is colored with Polycolor colored pencils and i used the Derwent Blending Pecil for blending (this method keeps the colors vibrant).  then I used a Derwent Metallic pencil on her shoes and gloves. Her necklace, bracelet and the gems on her dress are done with Spica Glitter pens.

The embellishments are made using Viva Decor Transparent Crystal Gel and a silicone mold - both available at Susana’s. After the fowers were dry and i popped them out of the mold i took a bit of Pink Bubblegum Perfect Pearls powder with my fingertip and brushed it over the flowers lightly to catch the raised portions. it gives them a bit of shimmer and a hint of color. These embellishemnts are so cool and so easy to make! you can watch a couple videos on the Crystal Gel on you tube.
i will get some pics up of our cruise and tell y’all all about it as soon as i get my bearings back!  that’s what happens when you wait 4 years to take a vacation :P  i also have an exciting giveaway coming up – all you cricut lovers will want to stay tuned…

Ta Da!!!!

hi everyone!
oh boy am i excited! i have been sitting on this for awhile and i finally get to debut it! susana and i have been fascinated with Viva Decor products for some time and we love experimentation. when susana called me and told me about her latest discovery i was intrigued.  i would love to introduce you to Viva Decor Crystal Gel:

So what the heck is it? it is a creamy thick semi transparent gel that hardens and won’t lose its shape. the best part is the blue silicone mold you see in the picture.  what susana discovered is that you can put the gel in the molds, let it harden and pop it out – perfect embellishment!  You can find these on the same page as the gel but be sure to read the description carefully.  for example on the mold i used – the image only shows one each of the four different flowers you can make BUT the mold itself actually makes 9 flowers at once.  i LOVE that! and the colors – YUMMY! many with a metallic shimmer to them. one even has flakes of holographic mica in it!
These are the ones i used on my project today:

The image is by Carmen Medlin and part of the Natural Beauty Collection – Dances with Dragonlfies. she is colored with Copics and I used Pink Highlights Creative Inspirations paints for her wings and the trim on her gown.

and those embellishments – do you love them??? notice the crazy awesome blue ones??? they are the same gel as the others but i gave them a wash of color with Viva Decor Precious Metal Paints. the best part – the mica flakes still shine through! so how did i do it? take a look at these two videos and they will answer all of your questions!

Want to see what other cool stuff it can do? check out the projects on the SCACD store blog by a few of my DT sisters!  they are fantastic!

So how can you get your hands on this? head over to SCACD for Cystal Gel and molds!

Clear It Out: twinks!

hiya!

talk about soggy we are getting some major soaking here in VA.  i feel for all of the poor people along the mississippi though – at least we are not dealing with flooding.  just heartbreaking to imagine what everyone is going through.  i will be watching as the crest passes through the area where my family lives in south louisiana.

I’ll be doing more work today on my Colored Pencil 2 class – i am still on track to have it launch next week YAY!  i know alot of people are asking for it and anxious to get it going!  in fact i am enjoying picking the pencils back up so much that i found it difficult to work with copics yesterday when i was coloring some images for an ad!  of course Colored Pencil 1 class is always open for new students as well.  that’s the nice thing about online classes!

my project today is for a challenge called Clear It Out – Through the Craft Room Door is sponsoring this one and the winner will receive a free one year PDF subscription!

The idea behind Clear It Out is to use up things in your craft room that have been neglected and this week’s challenge was coloring mediums:

Isn’t she darling???  she is a digi image from A Day for Daisies on Etsy – i LOVE these images – different than most.  sometimes i really need something new ya know?  i like the rough edges of the images.  my card uses a piece of patterned paper from Basic Grey’s Sweet Threads.  my flower is cut from scraps i dug out of my scrap box (which really really needs to be sorted and put away) and cut using the Mother’s Day Bouquet Cricut Cartridge (i do not need punch bunch punches…i do not need punch bunch punches…i do not need punch bunch punches…) i really like how it came out.  an idea is creeping around in the back of my head – i have a punch bunch project book – i wonder if i could make similar flowers using mother’s day bouquet…?

The layout uses the sketch from Mojo Monday this week.  i really liked this one!  lots of room for interpretation!

so what neglected coloring medium did i use?  my twinks!  Twinkling H2Os to be precise.  i actually just pulled them out for the first time in over a year just a week or two ago but i still think they qualify as neglected!  this pic is from a different angle and really captures some of the shimmer you get with Twinks -dee-LISH!

i did not use watercolor paper because the image was already printed out when i decided to do the Twinks but it still worked out nicely.  i also did a second image but i have not decided what i will use it on.

here is a better look at the flower as well as a good look at my dimensional dots – the new Magic Pearl Pen from Viva Decor!

These are very cool – not the same as the regular pearl pens.  they are sort of iridescent/transparent/interference.  the look you get will vary slightly depending on the color paper underneath.  the pen here is the white one – they also come in blue, lilac, rose, lemon & transparent.  the one in the flower center has more of a transparent iridescent look while the pearls on the green paper have more of a white frosted glass look.  neat stuff!

now it’s your turn!  pull out your most neglected coloring medium and show it some love!  then link your card to the challenge at Clear It Out for a chance to win a free 1 year PDF subscription to TTCRD!

hugs

SCACD new release time! Come hop with us

hooray it’s here!  release day for The Peekers at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design!  These are Elisabeth Bell images and just as cute as can be!  i was tired of making cards so i just let myself go wild with a blank canvas:

talk about fun!  I adhered an 8.5 x 11 piece of sticky back canvas to sturdy cardboard.  I began by mixing some pearl mists using water, a little dye reinker and some perfect pearls.  i used a blue and a green – i mixed my own because i wantred the color to be faint and i wanted the shimmer to match – i used the new Confection Colors – to DIE for!  Once dry I took my Versamark pad and smeared it randomly around and added even more perfect pearl powder with a dry brush.  a LIGHT mist of water seals them.

Next i laid down a Crafter’s Workshop Stencil - Number Collage – and then sponged over it with a sponge dauber and Lumiere paints – Metallic Emerald and Halo Pink – i wanted it to be random and in-exact.  Next I pulled out some Viva Decor Modeling Cream – Pearl Lilac and Pearl Hydrangea – and smeared it on liberally.  i swirled a bit with the end of a paint brush in the cream and then sprinkled on microbeads and Gala Glitz.  Finally I stamped some music with the Prima Recital stamp.

I added a banner made on my Cricut Imagine and some teeny bows to hold it together – easy to make with the Bow Easy.  The big beautiful blooms are all available at SCACD!

My image is called Sweet Mischief – can you totally see Pezza doing that???

I colored her with Copics and then I used Smooch in Lettuce and Plumberry on the cake icing and the canister for a bit of shimmer.  i used Liquid Pearls – Ruby red for the Cherries and the ball on top of the canister.

finally I finished it off by using Liquid Pearls – Peacock & Lavender – to finish around the edges.  These are the new formula and boy does it ever ROCK!  the pearls are AMAZING and form SO easily!  LOVIN’ them!

Your next stop on the hop is Judy Laing. If you would like to start at the beginning and see them all head over to Kim’s blog!

Now get on over to the store and order a set of these cuties for yourself too!  and check out the scads of other goodies Susana has in the store!

Enjoy your weekend!

My fave Cricut project

happy monday!

yea yea i know!  we are supposed to get into the upper 70s today so pezza and i will be heading to the National Zoo as planned.  it rained last night and will rain again tonight but it looks like the day will be good.  i am slightly nervous as it has been YEARS since i have ridden the metro and it has changed alot.  i have this irrational fear of being lost forever and hate not knowing where i am going or what i am doing to go somewhere.  so i start to get panicky.  which is kind of funny (hence the irrational part) since 1. i have moved and acclimated to new places more time than most people can imagine – my parents joke that i could be dropped from a plane in ANY unknown place and by the end of day 1 i will have a job, a place to live, and several friends :P and 2. really.  lost forever?  like i can’t just go up to someone and be like hey, can you help me a minute.  it’s not like i am braving the amazon jungle alone :P  SO i am sure it will go FINE.

Pezza says she wants to see baby lions, snakes and giraffes.  hopefully she will be interested in more aimals once we get there!

And now who wants to see my most favorite of all my Cricut Projects?  This appeared in our July/Aug issue:

This is a Flavored Lemonade gift set – perfect for a summer time party or hostess gift!

The large jar has lemonade mix and the two small bottles have Blackberry and Watermelon flavored syrups.  I used the Preserves Cartridge for the tags and glass etching – which is actually Viva Decor Satine - so much better and easier to use than etching cream!

I sure hope we see you all over at the TTCRD Birthday Party!!!

have a happy day!

TIOT: so ready for spring!

Good Morning!

I am off to a VERY slow start this morning but i am finally here to share my TIOT project with you today. I got out my Viva Decor Modeling Cream and played around with it – LOVE that stuff!!! it is just deeLISH!

I have really been wanting to play with some of the Inkadinkado sets Susana brought in so i pulled out the Spring Garden Inchies set and stamped 3 of them in a square leaving the fourth corner open for a flower. I chose a super looking over-the-top flower – a Prima Roosevelt Delano.

for the background I began by taking a white piece of paper and the Harlequin Crafters Workshop Stencil. I simply laid the stencil over my paper and smoothed on the modeling cream. You must work quickly but not sloppily! hold the stencil down so it doesn’t pull up when you lift your spreader (i use a plastic, wide painting knife i found in the art section). Once you have covered the stencil lift it up and you have this gorgeous pearlescent embossed background:

You can see from the close up what a crisp edge i get – i just LOVE that! i also covered a Maya Road Chipboard swirl with modeling cream and a sponge dabber – gives it a great slight texture. You can see it peeking out from beneath the flower.

So what do you think? Have YOU used the Modeling Cream yet? How about the Stencils – you NEED these for sure! and just think of all the things you can do with those cute Inkadinkado Inchies sets!  And now it’s back to work for me!!!

i hope you all have a fabby weekend!!!
