Piling It On: goodies for lil goblins

good morning!  well it is stiiiiiillll raining here.  apparently i need to figure out how to build an ark with my cricut or something……best of all Pezzy the Wonder Tot has been up since 4.  no thats not a typo.  i didn’t let her out of her bed til 6 but 2 hours of bed police instead of crafting time makes for a very grumpy mom……

as promised i have some great projects to share today.  they incorporate 6 challenges for the Pile It On challenge:

1. Pile It On – Halloween

2. Cute Card Thursday Challenge – spookfest

3. ABC Challenge - F is for flying

4. Paper Play - (with our very own Sandie) – use your favorite embellie

5. Sweet Dreamers – use bugs

6. Daring Card Makers - clear – either the whole card or an embellishment

i could have included more because so many are focusing on halloween but ….

can you tell i am loving the Pile It On blog???  i feel like it gave me permission to be ok with combining challenges!  now on to the PICS!!

halloween treat all

remember the cookies i am giving to a few of the neighbors?  here are the treat holders i made for them.  These are from the same Picnic Basket template set - it has the large one and then a mini size too.  i made them extra tall and left out the lids.  i put the cookies in these tall cello bags i found in the baking section at joanns, tied a ribbon to keep them closed and attached a halloween tag  from my current Studio G challenge set to each one.  The current Studio G challenge is to use halloween colors – orange, black, green and purple – we only have a few entries so far so that means good odds of winning!!

here are some closer looks at each gift set:

halloween treat 1

i kept the boxes pretty simple.  each one has a spider web (my clear item for daring card makers).  want a GREAT tip for making your own ghost shapes?  you know the hard plastic packaging alot of things come in – like cricut cartridges and cuttlebug goodies?  well don’t throw it away!  it cuts wonderfully in the cricut with the deep blade housing.  at first it looks like it didn’t cut through but they just pop right out!  i put a little pearl metallic mixative on them for a bit of shimmer and to help them stand out a bit.  all of the cuts are from the paper dolls cartridge.

Carys’s bag has a few extras because her granma is visiting *wink*

I cut the ghost out of the hard plastic too.

In addition to the box of cookies Pezzy and i made a fun and easy little pumpkin tea light holder for each family:

Pumpkin lights

We made one tall one for us and mini ones for giving away.

here they are lit:

Pumpkins LIT

Wanna know how i did it??  i got the idea from Roni – THE BEST for tips and tricks on using all things Ranger.

Roni used several colors and gave hers a more mottled effect – i used one color and went for more complete coverage.

the jars are baby food jars – i knew i saved them all these years for SOMEthing!  all i did was squirt some alcohol ink in – actually pezzy squirted it in and then we swirled it around on the inside of the jar until it was completely covered.  i let any excess drip out and then let it dry for a couple minutes.  the tall one is terra cotta and the small one is Sunset Orange.  Next i took black diamond stickles and just hand drew a simple pumpkin face on and let it dry.  tie a ribbon around the top and you’re done!

i wanted to try some metallics too so i did a few more in christmas colors. here is one with sail boat blue alcohol ink and silver metallic mixatives.

blue snowflake jar

after it dried i used some white snowflake SU rubons around the jar.  the mixatives are not transparent so i don’t know if it will have the same effect with the tea light but i do think it would be cute holding a little bag of candy!

i did a few other combos but no pics yet – i did one with meadow and gold mixative, one with just clover, and one with red pepper and pearl mixative.  the pearl is somewhat transparent and shimmery.  not sure yet what else i will do one the outside but i am thinking some simple cricut cuts might look good….

**YES alcohol inks are flammable – WHEN WET.  once dry the alcohol has evaporated and you are left with just color.  i let mine sit overnight and then lit them with no problems.  NEVER leave a candle unattended!!**

what do you think???

Better late than never triple play

still kickin’ over here!  whew – hubby said my blog was depressing this week – SORRY FOLKS!!!  i so don’t do sick well!  but i DID get some play time in this morning!  i stumbled across a GREAT challenge blog blog hop going on right now with TONS of ways to win prizes and loads of great ideas and inspiration – which i needed a TON of after not doing much this week!  today i am posting my first project for the hop.

i am actually satisfying three challenges in one – not sure if that makes me REALLY clever or REALLY lazy hahahhaha!!!  but it just worked so i went with it.  so here is the line up:

1. Sweet Dreamers #8 – Buttons

2. Chirpers Challenge blog hop challenge – (must incorporate cricut machine) – sweet, with glitter and stamping

3. Aly’s Sunday Challenge - a sketch (Aly is the ten year old daughter of one of the girls in teh Sweet Dreamers blog group and has MADE a card to go with the sketch!!)

And here is my take on these three challenges:

sd alys & chirper

the overall card LO follows Aly’s setch.  for my buttons i have one at the peak on top of the card PLUS an embossed button border along the bottom.  For the Chirper Challenge i used a cupcake cut from Doodlecharms and then glittered everything up with stickles – i outlined the frosting with stickles, added stickles to the polka dots on the cupcake paper and then i also added stickles along several stripes on the top corners.  i have fruit punch on the pink stripes, crystal on the blue stripes and yellow on the yellow stripes.  the red frame piece is a square frame from wild card that i cut diagonally.  then i stamped a sweet treat border along the bottom above the buttons.  the border is done with my exclusive Polkadot Pie stamps - Chocolate Treates 1&2 – many of my stamp sets are made with interchangeable borders and mini accents to customize borders and backgrounds.  a couple chocolate drop glittered skittles finish of each corner.

the nestie, cupcake and frame cuts were already on my table from previous projects – they were extras so i was glad to find an opportunity to use them!

the challenge blog hop lasts until oct 1 – there are LOTS of different challenges so i am hoping i have another chance to get some done, though i doubt i will get to them ALL!  we’ll see!  you can go to the beginning by visiting Scrapsketch!

i hope you are all having a happy stampy weekend!!

hugs

Triple play! a fun bday card

soooo i don’t think i have spent this much time in the car since i used to commute to a full time job every day!  a kid in college 45 minutes away with no driver’s license just SUCKS!!  no two ways about it!  Crossing my fingers for a spot in Behind The Wheel next week so he can get licensed!

I also just finished and submitted the write up for a collection of Christmas gift set goodies I was asked to do for Abby over at Crafts N Things magazine.  They will appear in the upcoming issue so i sure hope y’all all check it out!!  i am SO excited about it and love working with the mag as it is one of my all-time faves.  While papercrafting is my first love and have lots of other crafty interests and this magazine speaks to ALL of them!

now onto the reason you dropped by today!

SC243sketchmy card today is a triple play – it covers THREE challenges!!  The Sweet Dreamers blog group challenge is to use eyelets – 1 or lots.  Then the Cricut Board put a new forum up called challenges.  Well we all LOVE our punches over there so my friend Nilda posted a challenge to make something using a punch and at least 1 cricut cut.  Then i decided to use the Sketch from SCS for the layout of the card.

Here is what I came up with:

A close up of the cricut cuts:

sc243 close up

my cricut has been quite neglected recently – i forget how much i love to use it!  These little cuts are from doodlecharms – an old cart but still one of my fave basic ones!  it’s got a little bit of everything and they are all adorable!  Heavily accented with stickles of course!

Gives a better look at my tiny eyelet too – hope it still counts!!

There are a couple new carts coming out that i have my eye on…luckily my pal Terri at Stampsalive always has them at a super price!

More car time in store for me all afternoon…can’t wait!

Thanks so much for stopping to visit!

SC235 and sweet dreamers 1: recipe cards for PDD Wednesday

blog tag

And this tie i am pretty sure it really is wednesday – though i would have to ask someone before i bet money…  My project for PDD wednesday is a 2fer yay!!!

SC239

I used the sketch challenge from SCS today and my project is for the FIRST challenge in a new blog group I just joined over on SCS – Sweet Dreamers!  Mary challenged us to do a sort of get-to-know-you project – we had to use our favorite color(s) and had to depict a fave activity other than stamping.

Here are my projects:

SD1 faves

SD1 faves 2

I used purple and green as my colors – i just love them together!  and the projects themselves are recipe cards for each of the boys’ recipe books.  this worked out because one of my fave things to do (before pezzy took over anyway) is to cook.  This recipe for Hamburger Corn Bake is a hands down family fave that EVERYONE loves – which is a hard feat!  i also incorporated some other faves – my fave background stamp from my Polkadot Pie, stamped in my favorite ink – Brilliance pearlescent, incorporating my two fave patterns – stripes and dots and using my two fave embellies – my exclusive glittered skittles and pezabling acrylic squares!  i ahve been trying to keep these fairly simple since they need to be USEABLE.

if you’re lookin’ for some browsing to do check out the other blogs in the sweet dreamers group – links are at the bottom of the right sidebar!

she who never sleeps

this last collage of pics are of She-Who-Never Sleeps *helping* mom take her blog photos….

those are her fave toys – handy manny tools.

Don’t forget to go see what the other girls in Pezzy’s Playgroup have up for today!!!  Links are on the top left sidebar!

have a super day!  thanks so much for stopping by!
