TIOT: a dreamy color challenge

This week Suzanne issued a color challenge for the Try It Out Tuesday teama over on the store blog for Susana’s Custom Art & Card Designs and it just happened to be my FAVES! pink, sage/moss green & cream/white – oh deeLISH!

i used this week’s OCCC sketch (altered a bit) for my card.

my patterned paper is from Porcelain by Basic Grey and Susana has it in the 6×6 pad which i LOVE – makes me feel less bad about needing ALL of them! for the 2 smaller panels i played a bit with some smooch spritz and tissue paper. i lightly sprayed the tissue paper with limoliscious and pink sprinkle from the latest color release. once dry i crumpled it really good. next i covered two pieces of cardstock with adhesive using a zyron and then i opened the tissue pper up but did not smooth out the wrinkles completely. i laid it on top of the adhesive on the cardstock and then pressed it down so the wrinkles stayed somewhat like silk. i used the paper lace technique with my martha stewart punch for the cream strip. i used a plain white prima flower that i jazzed up a bit with some Tutu Pink Inspirations Paint - i loaded my brush with water and then dipped it into the paint and mixed it around on my craft sheet and then brushed it onto the flower lightly to catch the raised portions. then i painted it on straight for the center flower. the little green branch pieces are from my cricut. finally i added the gorgeous glossy pearls with my viva decor paper pens in Lime Green & Rose.

my main image is a SUPER DUPER cutie from the recent Elisabeth Bell release – “bunnie” – what a sweetie right? i stamped her with memento black & colored her with Copics. Her ribbon and lace edges are painted with Fairy Dust Inspirations Paint. i added a bit of Sweet Pea Flower Soft to the flowers along the handle of her basket.

OCCC: harvest time

This week’s challenge over at Our Creative Corner is an inspiration challenge – Harvest Time.  i was just thinking yesterday I can’t believe it’s AUGUST!  While i do LOVE my happy spring and summer colors I AM ready to change gears and get a start on my holiday crafting!  Here is the card I made for OCCC:

I am IN LOVE with the Rustic DCWV pad – and i am not a hardcore DCWV girl but this one – every page is gorgeous.  i created my main panel with a simple polished stone alcohol ink technique using ginger, peach bellini and salmon with a little copper mixative – those new AI colors make a world of difference!  although this is a card now i am contemplating turning it into a title piece for a thanksgiving LO of my family – whadda ya think?

I used Jen’s Sketch For You To Try for this week as well as the OCCC Triple Play embellie challenge – use 3 types of embellies – i have ribbon, buttons and stickles.  the stickles does not show well in the pick (overcast today) but i used it on the cupcakes, scallop edge AND to highlight bits of the pattern on the cupcake paper.

Today’s project covers TWO challenges AND  a new technique video from over on stamp TV that Gina K put up recently!  the technique is really neat though subtle so it was hard to get a photo that did it justice. you start with a piece of alcoho ink polished stone paper – basic alcohol ink application.  use ranger glossy paper and 2-3 colors of alcohol ink with a metallic mixative, dab randomly over paper, add blending solution to your felt piece and dab again.

Next take a stamp that you would normally color in, stamp onto your polished stone using versamark, emboss with black.  finally color in all or part of your image carefully with bleach – some colors bleach out and others don’t so you get a very interesting effect.

The OCC Challenge is to use border punches – how easy is that??  and the CAS19 challenge was a sketch.

So far the set includes a card, tea bag folder, gift tag, cough drops and a soothing vapor plug in.  i also ordered some eucalyptus handmade bath items that are just gorgeous from RachelRene on etsy and will add those when they arrive.  I URGE you to go check out this shop as she has some GREAT stuff!  Be sure and tell her i sent you over!  BTW etsy is THE greatest place to shop i swear!  if you don’t shop there regularly you really should!

I am trying to get some gift sets together to keep on hand too – would be SO much easier – i have been perusing etsy and picking up things i see here and there and everything is just SO top notch!  i am hoping by the time the holiday season rolls around i will have NOTHING i need to do!

i wasn’t sure how i felt about this sketch at first but i really liked it once i played around with it!

 

 

 

here is my card which highlights some of the new colors of alcohol inks:

i love the options that have opened up with all the new alcohol ink colors.  anyone else still navigating all the possibilities??  the cupcake embellie was too fun to make – i will have more of those to show you later this week!

The background was done using the most basic alcohol ink technique – i added the three colors to a felt pad – not touching – and one drop of silver mixative and then dabbed all over my glossy cardstock.  next i added blending solution to the same felt pad and dabbed over the cardstock again which causes the colors to move and blend – i continued this until i liked the look.  alcohol ink is very quick and easy for doing backgrounds!
