TIOT and a pezza’s way video!

hi everyone!

another trip to walmart yesterday, another zero at finding more cricut lite cartridges.  they only have their carts marked down to $34 and they do not seem to be selling – i think they are the same exact cartridges that have been sitting there for a year :P

i have a treat for YOU today tho – it’s another Pezza’s Way video!

i was trying so hard not to laugh!!  unfortunately i missed the funniest part when i turned off the camera – she says momma i am more funner than tim holtz!  lord she’s silly!

now on to my project!

suzanne gave us a great challenge – weaving! the DTs have done an incredible job so be sure to go check out the rest of them!

my card is inspired by two other challenges as well:

Mojo Monday Sketch
Creative Inspirations - beach themed colors – yellows, blues, tans
Papertake Weekly - Flowers
Crafty Creations - Shine
Stamp Something - Summer

so here is mine:

Susana has these AMAZING collage stamps in her store now from I Brake For Stamps – i think they are just heavenly!! This one is called Flying Swallow. each one is positively exquisite! i stamped the image in black and then i used Inspirations shimmering paints to highlight areas and inages on the stamp to bring them out. I used Buttercup, Aquamarine and Tan and i thinned them with water to get more of a sheer wash rather than a thick paint. that’s one of the things i love about these paints – the versatility. despite thinning them with water i lost NONE of the SHIMMER!

my gorgeous copper paper is actually plain tan paper sprayed with PSST pearl by Tsukineko. This mist gives you pure shimmer without changing the color in any way – so you can make ANY paper you have into shimmer paper quickly and easily! i punched it with the Martha Stewart deep edge trellis punch and then weaved my ribbon through. (i really wanted blue ribbon but DESPITE having 37 pounds of ribbon i apparently don’t have a thin blue one other than navy ACK!) the blue background is embossed with one of the new tim holtz embossing folders by sizzix (checkerboard) and let me just say i have been VERY IMPRESSED with these folders!  they emboss VERY WELL and i know Sizzix makes many others that are very sute too – cuttlebug/ProvoCraft may not have this market cornered for long! i made the tab from one end of a spellbinders label die. i finished off with a few pearls using my Viva Decor Cream Pearl Pen - SO EASY to use!!

this was a really fun, quick card to whip up (another incredible advantage of these gorgeous collage stamps!) So what kind of weaving would YOU do??? join our challenge over on the SCACD store blog and let us see!!! while you are ther,e have you entered to win the fabulous blog candy Susana has up for grabs?? and i will see y’all tomorrow for an exciting blog hop of brand new elisabeth bell sweetness!!!

Mini invite & clearly sparkling – double duty today!

ever look at your to-do list for the day and have this vague sense that it will take DAYS to actually do it?  that would be ME!!  however i AM gradually scratching a few things off…  i am covering two challenges today – TIOT for Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design SCACD AND my project for Creative Inspirations paints which are carried in Susana’s store as well!

blog tag

our TIOT challenge for SCACD was two-fold – an invitation AND we had to use red, white n blue! rather than the traditional party invitation type project i went down a little different road and came up with this:
it is more of an individual invitation to get together with a friend for coffee. It’s a cute little 3″ square mini notecard. I used a Lockhart stamp called Teapot – you can get it HERE in susana’s store. i stamped it with Memento black and colored with Copics. the blue patterned paper is from one of the new Kaisercraft 6×6 pads Susana just got in – Utopia. These new pads are GORGEOUS! i finished off with a teeny prima from the Tiny Tots set and stamped a sentiment from Studio G. sweet & simple!

next i challenged the Creative Inspirations Paints team to Clearly Sparkle – they had to use their paints on something clear! here is mine:

I got my colors from my paper – i used a piece from a mini k&Co pad i think it is.  That FABBY ribbon is from my outlet score tuesday!  The center is a couple primas with a glittered skittle center.  the band is punched with an ek success border punch and accented with a Viva Decor yellow Gloss Gel Pen.

My main image is from Peachy Keen stamps – i just adore it!  i stamped it on acetate with Staz On black ink.  Then i let it dry and painted the BACK with the CI paints.  i put them on thickly to minimize any uneven coverage.  it really sparkles & shines!

MAKE SURE YOU STOP BY AND SEE THE OTHER PROJECTS FROM BOTH DESIGN TEAMS!!

Artful Inkables:happy everything

ok i have been remiss in my postings so i have several things to cover today!  first up – ANARY THESE ARE FOR YOU!!

Anary refers to these as cheek glasses – you know – so big they cover your cheeks!  pez had picked these otu at walmart so i promised pics for anary’s cheek glasses gallery!

we took these outside of the offray ribbon outlet yesterday on our field trip with Suzanne – WOW!  talk about some GOOD deals on ribbon:

i could not get tiger out of the picture sorry BUT this is only part of my haul – literally HUNDREDS of $$$ of ribbon for $75!!!!!  AND it included a pezzy haul too:

she was OBSSESSED with the packaging ribbons!  see that grocery bag full of bows?  25 cents!!!! *thud*  i saw that and i was like sure honey you pick out as many as you want!!!!

you will be able to see more pics and read all about it in the next issue of Through the Craft Room Door!

and now my project – i have not had much time in the craft room lately and feel my mojo is a little lacking now – seems it think we are on some sort of long vacation ACK!

i love to try new things so i pulled out another one of my most FAVE books ever – Paper Transformed by Julia Andrus (developer of Perfect Pearls).  and here is my result:

the main panel is the one i did using one of julia’s techniques with Creative Inspirations shimmering paints – IRL it is so sparkly!  then i stamped the adorable Happy everything from one of the latest artful inkables sets.  happy is separate and then you have all sorts of small sayings to change it to suit your needs!  i used patterned paper from basic grey’s capella collection – GORGEOUS colors.  i finished off with a few of my exclusive glittered skittles and a yummy Wild Orchid curly rose!

have a great day!

Susana has some awesome blog candy up for grabs but time is running out – you only have a few hours to enter HERE !  While you’re over there be sure to take a look at the incredible projects created by the DTs today!

since it ws the lst day of preschool of COURSE i just had to make little gifties for pezza’s teacher and the other ladies in the community center:

i made four and filled them with several of those new starbucks viva instant coffees, and some yummy teas, long with a goodie bag full of various pepperidge farm cookies – mmmmmm

the box itself was cut on my Cricut using Sweet Treats – makes it SO easy!  it is actually a cupcake holder but i cut it larger – 9″ which gave me a 3″ square box.  Then i scored the fold lines with my scorpal.

next i stamped this cute little coffee break stamp using inspirations shimmering paints instead of regular old ink – i really like the look you get when stamping with paint.  the inspirations paints work GREAT for stamping AND you get the nice shimmer too!  i take a finger tip dabber and dip it into a little paint.  then i tap it out on my craft sheet until it’s very thin and then tap it lightly onto my stamp – TA DA!  you do have to work quickly though so the paint doesn’t dry before you stamp your image!

i decorated the back too!  add Prima flowers and some of my glittered skittles and you have super easy cuteness!

i hope everyone has fun stuff to look forward to this long weekend!!

hugs!

TIOT with a GREAT tip on watercoloring!

blog tag

Suzanne gave us a fun challenge this week reminiscent of blooming tulips (which i should be seeing in my yard soon!) We were to use red, purple, yellow and hot pink. Crazy colors but i had fun with mine:

This project is for the following challenges:
Paperplay – Sketch
ABC challenge - Red
Papertake Weekly - Anything Goes
Crafty Creations – Anything Goes
Twisted Thursday - Anything Goes

The papers are from my scrap pile – i matted with Kraft and inked everything with Memento Rich Cocoa – this makes an amazing difference when working with lots of colors or lots of patterns – it just pulls everything together. The cute little flowers are Prima Tiny Tots.  Those yummy little pink droplets are gorgeous Magenta Gloss Gel from Viva Decor – yet another pen that gives you perfectly formed droplets with NO effort!

Ci TIOT

Now for the part i am most excited about – i WATERCOLORED!! ok i know some of you might be rolling your eyes but this is something i have longed to be able to do but never seemed to get it. I stamped the cute little image – New Friends by Elisabeth Bell for SCACD - on watercolor paper using Memento Black.  I cut her out using Spellbinders Labels 12.  Next I pulled out my yummy Creative Inspirations shimmer paints – if you have not seen these yet you are missing out! there’s more than 50 colors, the shimmer in PACKED in there and the colors are pure and amazingly brilliant. Now the important part – a Fantastix applicator. I got this tip from Molly, the creator of the paints. never heard of fantastix? well i had heard of them and even had some but i had NO idea when or why i would ever use them. now i know. the brush tip is a spongey pointed tip. it is hard when dry but i set it in a container of water for a bit while i chose my paint colors and it soaked up the water and became spongy. next i dipped the very tip into the paint and brushed it around on scrap paper – the paint mixed with the water and became a thin watercolor paint which i used to put a light wash of color on my image – i did NOT wet the paper first for this. Next i dipper the tip back into the paint & ran the tip along the edge where i wanted a darker shadow effect. i laid the Fantastix sort of sideways so i was using the SIDE of the tip – this created a blended effect from dark to light in one simple stroke – i was FLOORED!! couldn’t be easier!!! and the best part – even on the places with the PALEST of color wash the shimmer is still just as prolific! Go bck to the top and look at the moving pic again – you will see the shading in one flash and the shimmer in the other. ALSO when changing colors just swish your Fantastix round in your water like you would a paint brush! i hope some of you find this little tutorial useful! i hope to get it on video soon so i can demonstrate it a little better!
The project itself is not card but a little gift holder – inside is a cute matchbook style notepad attached with repositionable adhesive so it can be taken off and used. i raided the $1 bin at Ms recently – it is PACKED with fun little gift set items right now including these notepads – 2 to a pack and some GREAT mary englebrite items which i got a ton of.
The colors on this one just happened to match the challenge so that is where i got my inspiration!
i hope you are having a wonderful week!!!  une in tomorrow for Artful INKables!  it is a SUPER set featuring an amazing array of TJ techniques one of which could be my very favorite discovery!!

blog hoppin’ drumroll PUHleaze!

no chit chat from me today – just on to the good stuff – it’s release day at Susana’s Custom Art & Cards for Sampler #3 from the FABULOUS Elisabeth Bell!!  Are they adorable?  OMGAWD!!!  To celebrate we are doing a blog hop – you should have arrived here from Anki’s blog and your next stop will be Danni.  If you stumbled in here on accident and want to start over from the begining then head on over to my buddy Suzanne’s blog.

i was asked to work with Oh Baby and here is my little contribution to the blog hop!

how freakin adorable is her little face?!?!?!  The tag is cut using the Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge using Basic Greys Nook & Pantry Paper and all three layers are put together with foam tape for a little dimension.  i inked all of the edges using distress inks and then smeared on some distress stickles along the corners with my finger – don’t they look heavenly??  i love the unique mica sparkle to these!  i also added some to the center of my prima – susana has some new ones in the store – SOOOOO nice!

my tag covers the following challenges:

Pile It On - Flowers
Practical Scrappers - flowers
Stamp Something - Cute (ended yesterday but…)
Fussy & Fancy - Dazzle Us (ended yesterday…)

for my image i used Inspirations Paints first.  i am NOT a painter.  i do not know how to shade with paints or make them do what i want on the paper.  SO i just paint it in with no shading as shown here.  i use them a tiny bit watered down so the color is slightly thinned and the black lines show through easily.  The more water the paler the color.

next i added shading using prisma pencils.  i only used one shade of paint and one shade of pencils for each color.  i also used pencils for her hair and skin.

Th final image above was gone over with a blending stump – dry over the painted areas to soften some of the lines and with OMS on the skin areas.

Using the pencils over the paints does not affect the shimmer at all!

i appreciate everyone who stopped by – enjoy the hopping!

now another Insirans Paints project with a little how to for ya:
I saw this background technique for shimmering paint in a recent issue of Technique Junkies newsletter – an INVALUABLE resource BTW. My hert is stamped using the dabber technique with the Inspiration Paints – they work SO WELL for this – perfect detail still shows through! i mounted it on a base shape i cut fron the FOrever Young cricut cartridge and used a strip of SEI Juliette papers across the middle. finished it off with a few glittered skittles!

Photobucket

It was incredibly difficult to get the abundance of shimmer to show up well on camera but the hert and the background are both magnificent! for the background i put a line of Inspirations paint down on my craft sheet (about 1″ long). then i placed a drop of Pebble reinker on one end and a drop of cranberry reinker on the other end right on top of the shimmer paint. then i simply took a sponge and dabbed into the paint mixture and then randomly onto my cardstock – easy peasy! i ran the piece through my cuttlebug before adhering it to my cardfront. i am anxious to experiment with more color combos to see what i can come up with! who wants to join me????

well OUR LUCKY WINNER RebeccaG will start us off!!

as for the rest of you – pick up a few pots for yourself – easter is around the corner and those eggs need some SHIMMER!!!

that’s it for me for now – i will be back tomrrow with TIOT project!
