POM with a FREE digi!

hi all!

we are heading out to tour Oatlands Plantation this morning.  i LOVE plantations and even worked as a tour guide at one in south louisiana called oak alley – yep full hoop skirts and all!  it was so much fun!  if you ever saw interview with a vampire then you have seen oak alley. i was working there during filming – pretty interesting.  i have toured many plantations in louisiana and mississippi and i am curious if they will be similar or different here in northern va.

today kicks off a new challenge in the Prisma and Other Mediums group on The Outlawz – we had to use fabric on our projects.

i added a fabric yoyo layered with felt as my embellishment – topped off with a glittered skittle.  yoyos are SUPER easy to make with the Clover Yoyo Makers – you can find them at joanns. you can get the BEST felt in the BIGGEST selection of colors on etsy from Felt On The Fly - love shopping there!

isn’t this image just the best???  it was done by my DT sister over on the Outlawz POM team – anne fenton.  best of all – it is FREEEEEEEEEEEE.  that’s right – just click on her name and it will take you over to the Outlawz thread where you can see this image and all of her other amazing stuff.  i colored it with derwent coloursoft colored pencils.

and now a little kitten update – josephine, the momma cat, was adopted this past weekend – YAY!!!!  i am so happy for her.  she is such a sweet sweet baby.  as for our own newly adopted little guy he is just AWESOME.  of course i spoil him silly all day long so he can’t stand it if he is not in the same room as me.  he is so cute and so playful but not in a destructive way.  here he is in the top of one of the cat trees with Pezza:

Flower Shoppe bags

hi everyone!

i don’t know about the rest of you but my summer is flying by!  i do not seem to get nearly enough crafty play time at all!  i’ll start with an update on the foster kittens.  Josie, the momma, has been at the vet for 3 days after a strange reaction to her vaccine.  but she will be coming home this afternoon when i pick pezza up from camp.  YEP she is in camp this week.  i love her to pieces but momma needed a break.  if i have to pretend i am a little pony or a cars character one more day i might fling myself off my deck!

now last week on thursday i got a call from lost dog and cat asking if i could take one little lone kitten in to play with my others.  his momma and siblings had been adopted and he needed friends.  so of course i said yes.  however i did not ask hubby because i was afraid he would say no.  so we pick up bandit and o my word is he cute!  and he is partially maine coon, which is what my other two cats are and i LOVE them.  they are a very unique breed with fun personality traits.  he is the most lovey dovey i need a human cat i have ever seen.  AND he fell IN LOVE with hubby.  saturday night instead of putting him to bed in the basement with the rest of the kittens i snuck him into my bed and hubby did not toss him out.  then sunday i was gathering everyone up to head into petsmart for adoption.  we were searching for bandits fave toy to bring with us and hubby said he wanted bandit to stay.  so he adopted bandit!  o i adore him!  and the other two – berlioz and gingersnap – got adopted too!  so we have ended up with a new kitten of our own after all.  bandit sleeps with kevin every night and i mean sleeps WITH him.  like the other night he was draped across kevin’s head!  so cute!  i’ll have a pic at the end of the new baby.

today i have gift bags!

my main focus was to play with my new Flower Shoppe Cricut cartridge.  i chose 3 different designs and made them as the handbook suggested.  now of course you can layer them any way you want with as many layers as you want.  the nice thing is that these are designed to be 3 dimensional:

now i will start by saying i love the idea.  however, i also have to say i really struggled making these and getting them to look right.  it was even somewhat frustrating.  perhaps as i make more it will get easier but these are quite large.  i can’t imagine trying to make them small enough for card accents.  on the other hand the flat layers could easily be use to make lots of fun custom flower embellies.

One thing i really didn’t like about the layers the handbook had put together was the differing number of petals.  like one layer had 5 and one layer had 6 – huge pet peeve of mine!

The images i used are recent additions to the Make it Crafty images available at SCACD called the Mini Sprites and come as a set – are they just the cutest!  i colored them with colored pencils of course!

while i found the first run with this cartridge a bit frustrating i think it has awesome potential once i have more time to play around with it and experiment!

Another awesome challenge to check out is the Prisma & Other Mediums (POM) challenge on The Outlawz.  this is a SUPER challenge for folks who don’t use copics as well as those who do but like to play around with other stuff too!  the challenge this week is a bit of Christmas in July – Winter Glitter.

i just opened my newest cricut cartridge – Sweet Tooth boxes.

this is a smaller content cartridge with a much smaller price tag!  there are a variety of really cute gift boxes and lids as well as inserts meant to hold cupcakes but i thought they would also be perfect for holding a glittered ornament.

the lid is cut using Best Creations Glitter Paper – fab in the cricut.

The image is a digi by meljen from whimsy stamps.  i colored with polychromos and prisma pencils.  creating the goldtone like the bell is one of the lessons in Colored Pencil 2 Class over on Color Me Creative.  the holly was hanging out on my table and i have no idea where it came from.  the flourish is a Make it Crafty laser cut chipboard piece from Flower Leaf Swirls painted with Viva Decor Precious Metal Paint.

I cut the box, lid and insert at the sizes suggested in the handbook – which is the largest i could go on 12×12 paper.  the ornament fit perfectly.  (Note to self:  on future boxes, check the BACK of paper since you will see it on the inside of the box…).

i have so many ideas for embellishing all of these little boxes – i want to make them all!

hello all!

So sorry for being so quiet lately – i really do have SO much to share with you!  i was on a cruise last week to the bahamas!  yep – so so much fun.  then i came back to the power cord for my laptop no longer working.  ordered a new one, paid for expedited shipping, got it yesterday – they sent the wrong one *SCREECH*  so i STILL have no access to my computer and EVERYTHING i need to do my many jobs.  on top of that i came home super sick and am still feeling pretty awful.  needless to say i am having an incredibly difficult time getting back into the swing of things!

i just love the most recent release from SCACD and wanted to share another one with you today – this is Femme Fatale from the Retro group:
I paired her with papers from the Kaisercraft English Rose paper pad.

She is colored with Polycolor colored pencils and i used the Derwent Blending Pecil for blending (this method keeps the colors vibrant).  then I used a Derwent Metallic pencil on her shoes and gloves. Her necklace, bracelet and the gems on her dress are done with Spica Glitter pens.

The embellishments are made using Viva Decor Transparent Crystal Gel and a silicone mold - both available at Susana’s. After the fowers were dry and i popped them out of the mold i took a bit of Pink Bubblegum Perfect Pearls powder with my fingertip and brushed it over the flowers lightly to catch the raised portions. it gives them a bit of shimmer and a hint of color. These embellishemnts are so cool and so easy to make! you can watch a couple videos on the Crystal Gel on you tube.

i will get some pics up of our cruise and tell y’all all about it as soon as i get my bearings back!  that’s what happens when you wait 4 years to take a vacation   i also have an exciting giveaway coming up – all you cricut lovers will want to stay tuned…

 

POM at The Outlawz

hi everyone!

i am not sure how it can POSSIBLY be thursday – where on earth did my week go – i seriously feel like yesterday was the weekend…probably in part because i feel a bit like the walking dead lately.  i have been totally unable to fall asleep at night for a week – so i lay there awake wishing i could sleep instead BLECH!  might be time for a little tylenol PM i think!  the worst part – I STILL HAVE NOT BEGUN ON MY DOLLHOUSE!!!!  but perhaps today is the day…Pezza and I did pick up some expired wallpaper sample books while getting our paint and we went through them this morning – SUH-WEEEET stuff.  i LOVE wallpaper but i never really want it on my WALL.  we tore out LOADS of ones we like – some will go in the dollhouse but most will be showing up on future paper crafts and decoupage projects!

i HAVE been playing with the kittens of course and wow are they EVERYWHERE.  cutest pics EVER at the end of this post!

i LOVE these bright colors!  i know the yellow is Bo Bunny but i am not sure about the blue…and NO my die cut is NOT Cricut (gasp).  i was recently sent a Sizzix eClips to review for Craft Critique and this little flower was my first cut.  How does it rate?  How is it compared to Cricut?  for that you will just have to wait for my review on Craft Critique.  if you do not already subscribe you should – i have been reading it for years and it is a wealth of straight forward crafty information!

My main image is Dressy Marci from Lala Land Crafts.  I just love their designs!  She is colored with colored pencils – nope not copics.

I used Derwent Coloursoft pencils and the Derwent blender pencil (no gamsol or other solvent).  Here’s one of the great things about colored pencil – i am working in completing my color collection of these a little at a time.  so I did not have a color that matched my blue paper.  no problem – i just layered two pencils so it matched perfectly.  So what’s different about these compared to the Prismas?

The leads are much softer than Prismas which makes them more blend-y.  i LOVEEEEEEE them so much!

The 2 boys - Berlioz is SERIOUSLY larger than the other 2 kittens. Oliver is my baby. All he ever wants is for me to hold & cuddle him.
