Piling It On: goodies for lil goblins

good morning!  well it is stiiiiiillll raining here.  apparently i need to figure out how to build an ark with my cricut or something……best of all Pezzy the Wonder Tot has been up since 4.  no thats not a typo.  i didn’t let her out of her bed til 6 but 2 hours of bed police instead of crafting time makes for a very grumpy mom……

blog tag

as promised i have some great projects to share today.  they incorporate 6 challenges for the Pile It On challenge:

1. Pile It On – Halloween

2. Cute Card Thursday Challenge – spookfest

3. ABC Challenge - F is for flying

4. Paper Play - (with our very own Sandie) – use your favorite embellie

5. Sweet Dreamers – use bugs

6. Daring Card Makers - clear – either the whole card or an embellishment

i could have included more because so many are focusing on halloween but ….

can you tell i am loving the Pile It On blog???  i feel like it gave me permission to be ok with combining challenges!  now on to the PICS!!

halloween treat all

remember the cookies i am giving to a few of the neighbors?  here are the treat holders i made for them.  These are from the same Picnic Basket template set - it has the large one and then a mini size too.  i made them extra tall and left out the lids.  i put the cookies in these tall cello bags i found in the baking section at joanns, tied a ribbon to keep them closed and attached a halloween tag  from my current Studio G challenge set to each one.  The current Studio G challenge is to use halloween colors – orange, black, green and purple – we only have a few entries so far so that means good odds of winning!!

here are some closer looks at each gift set:

i kept the boxes pretty simple.  each one has a spider web (my clear item for daring card makers).  want a GREAT tip for making your own ghost shapes?  you know the hard plastic packaging alot of things come in – like cricut cartridges and cuttlebug goodies?  well don’t throw it away!  it cuts wonderfully in the cricut with the deep blade housing.  at first it looks like it didn’t cut through but they just pop right out!  i put a little pearl metallic mixative on them for a bit of shimmer and to help them stand out a bit.  all of the cuts are from the paper dolls cartridge.

I cut the ghost out of the hard plastic too.

In addition to the box of cookies Pezzy and i made a fun and easy little pumpkin tea light holder for each family:

Pumpkin lights

We made one tall one for us and mini ones for giving away.

Pumpkins LIT

Wanna know how i did it??  i got the idea from Roni – THE BEST for tips and tricks on using all things Ranger.

Roni used several colors and gave hers a more mottled effect – i used one color and went for more complete coverage.

the jars are baby food jars – i knew i saved them all these years for SOMEthing!  all i did was squirt some alcohol ink in – actually pezzy squirted it in and then we swirled it around on the inside of the jar until it was completely covered.  i let any excess drip out and then let it dry for a couple minutes.  the tall one is terra cotta and the small one is Sunset Orange.  Next i took black diamond stickles and just hand drew a simple pumpkin face on and let it dry.  tie a ribbon around the top and you’re done!

i wanted to try some metallics too so i did a few more in christmas colors. here is one with sail boat blue alcohol ink and silver metallic mixatives.

blue snowflake jar

after it dried i used some white snowflake SU rubons around the jar.  the mixatives are not transparent so i don’t know if it will have the same effect with the tea light but i do think it would be cute holding a little bag of candy!

i did a few other combos but no pics yet – i did one with meadow and gold mixative, one with just clover, and one with red pepper and pearl mixative.  the pearl is somewhat transparent and shimmery.  not sure yet what else i will do one the outside but i am thinking some simple cricut cuts might look good….

**YES alcohol inks are flammable – WHEN WET.  once dry the alcohol has evaporated and you are left with just color.  i let mine sit overnight and then lit them with no problems.  NEVER leave a candle unattended!!**

what do you think???

  1. Great work, Marti. I really love those treat holders (would love to be treat or treating in your neighbourhood!!!), and the jars are fab – the metallic blue is particularly effective. (I am also guilty of having hoarded baby food jars!!)
